  • Well-maintained and peaceful farm site in the Staffordshire Moorlands
  • A 10-minute drive from Leek and on the edge of the Peak District
  • Surrounded by 150 acres of hills and woodland for wanders
Set off on a foray at Fairboroughs Farm Caravan Site and you’ll be in good company – this spot 10 minutes’ drive from Leek, with roots stretching as far back as the 13th century, has been a popular place for stays in the Staffordshire Moorlands and on the edge of the Peak District National Park since 1967. Visitors are said to return to this place year after year, because of the Lowe family’s hospitality as well as the lovely location, so it’s a brill bet for friendly breaks in scenic surrounds. Make sure to pull the owners aside for a chat after you arrive – they’re always happy to share info on the local area, including which country pubs they’d recommend. Speaking of the surrounds, they're chock-full of cycling and walking trails. While on wanders through the 150 acres of hills and woodlands circling the park, stay on the lookout for red deer as several guests have spotted these rare creatures prancing about. Cast your gaze over the working sheep farm’s animals too, including hundred of ewes and lambs, along with free-range chickens, ducks, pet ponies and dogs. Got your own canine? They’re welcome to come along for a hol as long as they’re well behaved. Other key bits and bobs to note are that the TV reception’s decent at the park and there’s a security gate for safety. Off site, Rudyard Lake’s a 10-minute drive away for sailing, fishing, canoeing and row boating.

Old Orchard fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked: Very easy to find site and pitch level hardstanding. The owner was very friendly and welcoming and showed us the way to the pitch, which was the Orchard and we had it all ourselves, but there was other pitches in the adjacent areas. Facilities were very clean and well maintained. Great views across Staffordshire.

Disliked: I suppose the only 2 gripes were the grass in the orchard could have been abit shorter especially when you have the walk early morning to the toilet and there had been a heavy dew, however this in a minor issue. However the other gripe, which was more of an issue was the facilities being only one toilet/wash room which I would imagine could be more of an issue if all the pitches were occupied with large families?

Old Orchard fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked: Wonderful large pitch for our campervan. Beautiful views to look out on. Shower & toilet facilities clean and tidy. Friendly welcome and shown to our pitch. We met a lovely man called David from the farm who directed us to a lovely walk down to the Reservoir through and past fields all off road and his recommendation for the Lazy trout was great for cider refreshments. Lovely friendly pub well worth the stop before walking home.

Other renowned destinations in the national park are within easy reach too – check out Chatsworth House’s 25 rooms, including highlights like the Painted Hall and Sculpture Gallery (50 minutes), or stay closer to the site with roams around The Roaches (20 minutes), a 505-metre-high rocky ridge above the Tittesworth Reservoir. Outside the Peak District, rev things up with a go on the rides of Alton Towers (half an hour), England’s second most visited theme park after Legoland, then follow up with a calmer couple of hours at Rudyard Lake (10 minutes).
