  • Peaceful one-acre pitching field behind a Shropshire village pub
  • Half an hour's drive to Ironbridge; 40 minutes to Shropshire Hills
  • Real ales, beer garden and friendly community events
If ‘pub within easy walking distance’ is on your wishlist for somewhere to stay in Shropshire, you’ll be pleased with the offerings at The Three Horseshoes: pitch up here and you’ll be staying in the field right behind the pub in the village of Sambrook. This is a classic country pub, serving up real ales and plenty of other drinks in a friendly environment that also welcomes dogs. There’s a beer garden for alfresco drinks on sunnier days, and a programme of community events that might include quizzes, barbecues and live music – keep an eye out for what’s on while you’re here. (Please note the pub no longer serves food.) Things are kept pretty simple in the camping area, but guests will have access to drinking water and wifi, and there’s access to pub toilets throughout the day and night so you won’t be caught short. This spot between Newport and Market Drayton (and about 10 minutes’ drive from each) is a handy one for getting out and about: it’s only a short way off the A41 and within easy reach of all sorts of places for days out. That might be city days in Birmingham and Chester, soaking up the history in Ironbridge, heading out to hike the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty…

What customers say

A no-frills, peaceful campsite behind a traditional pub. Pitchupers love the spacious, tidy field and the super friendly staff. Clean pub loos with 24hr access and washing-up facilities. No showers, limited WiFi, but the quiet vibe, nice rural setting, and good value make it a top pick for short breaks.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked We booked a pitch at The Three Horseshoes over the August bank holiday weekend to have an extra little get away as well as to trial going away with our dog in preparation for our trip later in the year. We booked a non-electric grass tenting pitch, so obviously we were not expecting extraordinary amenities, but the toilets were clean and there was a water source available, you don't really need much more for basic camping, as long as you take the required equipment. This site provided a great base camp for us to tour some of the local areas, we ended up visiting 2-4 historic locations each day. The pub is a small village pub with a good variety of drinks available, the only thing that could have made the pub better was if they were to serve food (we would have eaten in the restaurant each evening), but both staff and the local customers were friendly. We noted during our stay that the pub was offering Bingo, so we decided to pop down for that, and we are so glad we did. The atmosphere was great and made our last night at The Three Horseshoes a very memorable one, and our dog became a local celebrity for the night. There was also fresh hen & bantam eggs available to purchase, which were delicious. There was also free wi-fi available to use whilst in the pub, for the cost per night, especially given the friendliness of all we encountered and the great atmosphere, camping at The Three Horseshoes is a bargain. We will definitely be back when the weather is better.

Liked The open field at the rear of the property

Disliked Disappointed really, I was expecting a couple of days visiting the pub and having a couple of meals, but on arrival no food was being served? I don’t know if this was just a temporary thing or permanent,
The porta loos on site were dirty and had no water in them.
