Campsite

  • Small and friendly meadow site near the Shropshire Hills
  • Within 10 minutes' walk of Much Wenlock
  • Campfires allowed: logs and kindling available on site
Good times for all ages can be anticipated at Wenlock Edge Caravan and Camping near Wenlock Edge in Shropshire: if you want a peaceful and relaxed setting with stacks of space for the kids to let off steam, this family-friendly place will tick all your holiday boxes. The big draw here is the friendly vibe from amiable owners and seasoned campers Claire and Carol, who'll be seen on site keeping everything shipshape (and sorting out logs and kindling for your evening campfire). The modern facilities extend to showers and toilets with underfloor heating, hair dryers and heaters, as well as a laundry room. Other topping factors are the big and safe natural area for kids to run around in away from the main site, and the closeness of Withies to activities of all sorts, including hikes around the Shropshire Hills, industrious visits to Ironbridge and its museums, and mooching around Shrewsbury, under half an hour's drive away. Withies is set in six acres of grassy meadow on Wenlock Edge near the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's a 10-minute walk to the historic market town of Much Wenlock and its visitor centre, traditional shops and a satisfying selection of pubs and restaurants.

Power optional grass caravan site

Liked: Well kept facilities, liked the coded entry so i could come and go as i pleased, the signage to the footpath into Much Wenlock was appreciated, nice to hear kids playing

Disliked: Sloping pitch which was all that was left with EHU, even with levelling chocks it was quite slopey

Power optional grass caravan site

Liked: Beautiful site within a 20 min walk to much wenlock (that’s because we’re both slow) lol

Toilet facilities spotless also adjoining kitchen area with fridge kettle and microwave which was a bonus

Even a toilet and shower for people with a disability, ramp leading up

Communication was bang on, couldn’t be more helpful also the lads on site were very polite and helpful

We took our grandson who’s nearly 8, he played on the park, then made friends with a group of other children. He had the best time

We will definitely come back had a really nice relaxed vibe to it

Disliked: Nothing

Power optional grass caravan site

Liked: Very relaxed and near to walks. Very quiet and calm spot. Short walk to Much Wenlock. Toilet and shower unit and as clean and well presented. Nice little play area for the younger kids.

Disliked: Shower water runs out through all of toilet block, meaning all of the area gets wet.
Field is on a fair hill, so campers in tents would be on a slant, we were in a Motorhome but even the ramps didn’t get us fully level.

Power optional grass caravan site

Liked: Great location
Fab walks right from the site
Beautiful views
Facilities quite clean
Microwave/kettle/toaster in kitchen area
20 mins from much wenlock - easy off road walk

Disliked: No marked pitches - bit of a free-for-all with the EHU. We were lucky and found two together. But others turned up after us to find a few hook up points being blocked by people who had pitched across them.
Only two loos and two showers in men’s and women’s. Not enough for the amount of people on site.
No loo roll
No recycling bins
Overflowing rubbish bins
Only one washing up basin in a very small kitchen area.

Power optional grass caravan site

Liked: Nice site with clean toilets and showers, wash up room is a great addition, and the supplied microwave, toaster and kettle are handy for people camping. Free firewood is an added bonus. Nice kids park equipment.

Disliked: Lack of toilet servicing meant no toilet roll being available on more than one occasion.
It would be nice to see level hard standing areas across the site for camper vans and caravans, and the touring pitches.
There are plenty of walks from the site and also many hidden gems in the village, a notice board or an information area on site would be helpful.
Beware of the showers, they go from cool to boiling with the slightest movement on the control.
Two showers in men’s toilets and two in the ladies is not enough for a full site.
There are no large bins on site for rubbish bags.
Grass was ridiculously long around the site and kids play area.
The trees and bushes marking out the touring pitches need attention as they restrict the size on the plot.

Liked: Quietness . Views from top of field. Facilities new and clean with nice touches like fridge , microwave and kettle in washing up area. Location within 10min walk to town via field and pathway. Wood supplied free of charge for fire pits.

Disliked: No recycling. Pitches on fairly steep slope making leveling units difficult.(not mentioned in advert). No personal instruction or contact on arrival or during stay

The owner messaged the gate code in advance to get on site
Liked the little secluded areas with picnick benches. Our pitch had a fire pit and free wood as well.
The toilets were spotless and well stocked , and showers were clean and nice and hot.
Didn’t use the wifi so cant comment

Local attractions

Wenlock Edge Caravan and Camping is in prime position for Shropshire's country, town and historic attractions, from its setting near the Shropshire Hills and within walking distance of town. Much Wenlock is between Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth, with the Ironbridge Gorge and the town of Telford to the north-east. Within a few minutes' walk is the limestone escarpment of Wenlock Edge, a Site of Special Scientific Interest running for over 19 miles between Craven Arms and Much Wenlock. It includes the marked trail of the Shropshire Way, the bridle path of the Jack Mytton Way, and eccentric structures like the tower Flounder's Folly, which many walks around the area pass. The Ironbridge Gorge Museums should entice even the most reluctant of small Shropshire holidaymakers: this UNESCO World Heritage Site has 10 museums telling the tale of Britain's Industrial Revolution, including the Blists Hill Victorian Town and Enginuity, an interactive design and technology centre with shows and workshops. Also make time for a trip on the spectacular Severn Valley Railway, on its 16-mile route through the Severn valley and along the River Severn for much of the way. The track runs from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster; alight nearby at Ironbridge Level Crossing, or nine miles from Withie at Bridgnorth. County capital Shrewsbury is 13 miles away, and the market town of Ludlow within 23.
