Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (wild)

Liked: We had the best camp I think we've ever had here. We saw part of the aurora and wild deer roaming around. The clearest sky I've seen. The owners just fantastic, we had home reared lamb, eggs and got pizza delivered at night. We loved the farm dog too she was a beauty called Ruby that cruises round on the truck. We could pitch where we liked in the field which was a joy. Easy to find and a little gem of a pantry up the road. We will definitely be back. Great job guys thank you for letting us enjoy your land.

Liked: This was our first weekend away in 12 months due to having an issue with the van. But we had a great time! It was quite, relaxing, peaceful and we spent quality time with friends. Lynn and Matt are great hosts and couldn't do enough for us! Anything we needed or asked for they were able to help with. We have enjoyed every minute and will definitely be back in the future. Thanks again for everything.

Liked: A lovely quiet site with a field to your self. Easy access to Bridgnorth.

Disliked: No water on site- had to go 1 mile to collect. We brought our own toilet so didn’t use their compostable one!

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (wild)

Liked: We loved this site, perfect for a bit of back-to-basics camping. We only spent one night there, but it was ideal for what we wanted. If you enjoy a good, peaceful, wild camping experience, without the worry of being moved on, then this site is ideal and reasonably priced. There's loads of room to find a nice secluded spot to pitch, and there's also some great views over Shropshire's rolling countryside. The owners of the site are really friendly and helpful, and they have a number of camping items that can be loaned should you forget something vital. There's an honesty box on site which has various goodies in, and for anything else the owners are just a message away. We had a very peaceful stay and are looking forward to visiting again soon.

Woodchip powered caravan site

Liked: We had such a great stay on the farmyard. Lynn and Matt were great hosts and it was exactly what it said on the tin, a wood chip pitch at the end of the cattle shed. Lynn let our children help feed calves and they had the best time. Highly recommend if you are looking for something different out of town and away from your standard motorhome pitches. We also had fresh eggs from the chickens that came and greeted us in the morning. Great experience

From the manager: Thanks so much for the lovely honest review. It was a pleasure to have you and show your budding young farmer the ropes. We are glad you enjoyed your stay on our farm 😁

Sheep field powered grass and gravel caravan site

Liked: We took our campervan into the large camping meadow and as we were the only people there we had a free choice of where to park up. We pitched up with far reaching views across the meadow to distant hills with no buildings in sight, at all. A rare treat. Waking to a dawn chorus of ground and hedge nesting birds was fab. A great wild camping location. Excellent for self sufficient camping.

Disliked: Field not quite flat, but used bricks provided to level up.

Sheep field powered grass and gravel caravan site

Liked: Peaceful & the couple that showed me to my pitch were very welcoming.

Disliked: Was the most shambolic setup that I've ever stayed at with my campervan and I've stayed at a good many. I note there are some good reviews for this site but they are for meadow campers. There is one campervan pitch and it is a hard-cored area just off off the farm yard in the sheep grazing field (the sheep had been removed!). There was an electric hook-up but water was provided by a muddy hosepipe laying on the floor with the nozzle next to a sheep turd so not for drinking then! This source of water had been turned off by the following morning and being a Sunday there was no-one on site to ask for it's reactivation. No shower on site but I knew that in advance but certainly didn't fancy putting my face near the dirty old sink in the toilet block. Paid ÂŁ30 for the night which if I'm honest was robbery. Why did I stay you may ask, well, I was on the internet straight after I got onto the pitch but given that it was getting late and there no other options within 25 miles I decided to put up with the situation.

From the manager: Sorry to hear of your stay that you say was so awful. It's a bit of a shock when Sunday morning you told me you had a great stay. I have concern over a few things you have stated. I sent you a message as soon as you booked stating this the camping was in a sheep grazing paddock to which you replied with a smiley face. We provided you with your own personal key to our office toilets as I stated to you that you were our first booking and we were not prepared. We asked you not to use the farm toilets to which you proceeded to anyway. I gave you my personal mobile number and said please anything at all you need let me know we only live across the road. You say the hose was disconnected but you did not let me know. I am on the farm 16 hours a day feeding livestock - you only needed to ask. Sunday when you state there was nobody here I was feeding calves from 5am onwards. When you went knocking on our tennants door on a Saturday night we found that totally unacceptable. Why did you feel the need to do this. They were having a private party and you as a solo travelling male in a white transit van choose to invade when there's a party with children?? Very odd. If when you departed on Sunday you had stated how unhappy you were we would have given you a refund. We have had nothing but lovely campers that embrace the countryside so far, you have really put us off offering electric hook up overnight stays for travellers now. Thanks again, thanks for letting us know your concerns and thanks for telling us you had a great stay.

Local attractions

Monkhopton is just outside the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so that means lots of walks and bike rides are easily accessible from here. If you’d like a bit of woolly company for your walk, book yourselves in for alpaca treks (short family-friendly ones or longer outings) with Severn Valley Alpacas (25 minutes’ drive). Bridgnorth (15 minutes) is a nice place to wander around too, with a castle and the waterside DanIels Mill to visit; you can also hire canoes in town for paddling along the River Severn. Dudmaston Estate, just outside Bridgnorth (20 minutes from Monkhopton) has an excellent art collection as well as pretty terraced gardens; other stately homes to visit nearby include Stokesay Castle (25 minutes) and Attingham Park (half an hour). For different views on history, go all the way back in time at Wroxeter Roman City or explore the many attractions of Ironbridge (both 25 minutes), which has interactive exhibits at Blists Hill Victorian Town and Enginuity and a tile museum (plus the bridge itself, of course).
