Tents in one of the dingles

  • Dog-friendly site on 15 acres of Onny Valley countryside
  • River for pond dipping, paddling and fishing
  • Popular pub serving food directly accessible from the site
Pooh! Pooh Sticks, that is – if your kids have never played it, a stay at The Green Caravan Park is the place to teach them the art. A river – the small and shallow River East Onny – runs through it for paddling, pond dipping, the aforementioned Pooh Sticks and fishing: pick up a cheap net at the site shop and keep your little shrimps entertained for hours for mere pennies. Once they’re dried off, there’s on-land nature spotting too, at the area set aside as a nature wilderness, a play area and space galore for bike riding or outdoor games. The Green Caravan Park has several riverside pitches, with others on the park island, in the two dingles, on The Plateau, in the play area field or in a five-acre meadow; electric pitches are in a separate field with both riverside and hardstanding spots. The park covers 15 acres of Onny Valley countryside in a National Landscape between the Long Mynd and Stiperstones Hills: it’s no wonder it’s been called ‘a little gem’ by previous happy campers. Dogs can stretch their paws at the dog walk and exercise area on site (please keep dogs on leads in other areas of the park and clear up after them in all areas). Food is well covered too: the popular family-friendly Inn on the Green serves home-cooked food and is directly accessible from the park (pre-booking comes highly recommended), and there are several country inns in the local area – steak and ale pies at The Crown get particular thumbs up.

What customers say

Lovely, tranquil spot with a stream. Spacious pitches, great for kids/dogs. Owners are super friendly and helpful. Nearby pubs and shops are a bonus. Facilities are clean but dated, showers need a spruce up. A few smells/noise issues, but overall a great stay, many want to return.

Liked This site is lovely. Only had a one night stay with our tent but wish we had stayed longer. Such a lovey and warm welcome from John and Rachel. The site is very relaxed, with clean amenities. The kids loved playing in the river and catching crayfish whilst us adults sat and relaxed in the warm evening sunshine. The pub next door (The Inn on the Green) also needs a recommendation. They found us a table with short notice. Food was great, service was fantastic.

Disliked The free WiFi wasn’t great. We couldn’t pick it up from our tent but this wasn’t the end of the world for one night. It’s nice to switch off sometimes.

Liked This caravan park is absolutely a gem! It was our first time with our kids (1 and 3 years old), and they loved it! We travelled 4 hours to this park and our expectations were met. It is very well organised camping. Very friendly atmosphere. Beautiful and peaceful place. It has a playground for the kids. Free of charge shower block and toilets, also really clean. There is a pub and a shop nearby. I highly recommend it!

Liked Stayed as a family group (4adults, 3 kids and a dog) and were put on neighbouring pitches after requesting this when booking on pitch up which was fab. Very warm welcome from the Park Managers who gave us lots of helpful information on arrival and were very present on site.

Good sized pitches on a beautifully maintained site with plenty for the kids to do- there is a park, field with football goals and a stream to play in and explore.

Really good facilities which were clean and there are plenty of water points across the site. On site shop with ice creams (£3 per tub) and a few other bits and bobs. Card payments accepted which was a bonus.

Lovely pub for drinks and food (need to pre book for a meal WELL in advance as was full when we were there!). Small shop which has a good variety of essentials and even does takeaway breakfast and dinners!!!

Liked Easy marked out pitches, generous size with a place for the bbq. Clean tidy site. Bathrooms clean. Friendly helpful hosts.

From the manager: Many thanks for your review Paul. We're very cautious with off the floor BBQ usage given the very dry conditions but always happy to offer extra concrete slabs if required but pleased to hear that you were on a pitch with adequate safe space. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

The perfect spot for a chilled weekend with friends.

Liked We got the warmest of welcomes from John, he gave us some great info about surrounding areas, the stores and pub which were all great and definitely enhanced our stay. Breakfast for 6 from the stores on Saturday morning cost just £28!
Super remote but all managed to get signal, or jump on the camps WiFi (camping without the kids so wanted to reach them)
Loved the recycling area, easy to use and emptied regularly.
Toilets, showers and washing up facilities all great, well maintained and clean, just a little dated.

From the manager: Many thanks for your review, you've made John's day! We hope to see you all again soon.

Local attractions

Many visitors to The Green Caravan Park come for Shropshire strolls around the calm country lanes and hills, along the Offa’s Dyke path or from nearby village Wentnor. The park is between the Stiperstone Hills and the Long Mynd, which make up the biggest area of heathland in the Shropshire hills: walk the five and a half miles of the Stiperstone Ridge from the Knolls car park for magnificent views towards the Long Mynd. Folk flock to the area for the birdwatching too: keep an eye out for red kites, plovers and buzzards around the Stiperstones, which is a national nature reserve. This is also castle country: Stokesay, Powis, Montgomery, Clun and Ludlow castles are all within easy driving distance. Have a wander around the festival and foodie town of Ludlow after seeing the castle or see the castle, abbey and over 660 listed buildings of medieval town Shrewsbury, both half an hour away. Industrialists will be kept busy at nearby Snailbeach Lead Mine and historic Ironbridge and the Ironbridge Gorge Museums about 15 miles from Shrewsbury: this World Heritage Site site should keep even the urchins happy, especially going back in time to Blists Hill Victorian Town or creeping down the old Tar Tunnel. Closer to your pitch but dating from further away in time, Bury Ditches Iron Age hill fort is between Clun and Bishop's Castle: go on to the latter for more walks, access to the Shropshire Way and the country’s oldest brewery, the Three Tuns. Well-behaved urchins can be rewarded at several family-friendly Shropshire attractions: if they liked Ironbridge they’ll probably be fond of the historic working farm at the Acton Scott estate, featured on the BBC’s Victorian Farm, or getting close to the natives at Telford’s Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom.
