Powered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: This was a lovely, clean and friendly campsite with all the facilities you need. There was lots for the children to do and they even had a tent with table football and connect 4. I would happily come back again, we really enjoyed our stay.

Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: Great facilities and shop. Free WiFi which was good speed too, unlike other places. Small, friendly, open site. Electric pitches are allocated but for non-electric you just find a space in the field. We were only staying one night and walked to Ketton (40 mins) and had a drink in the Railway pub there, which was lovely and friendly. The campsite is very close to Rutland Water where there are great walks and cycling routes.

Disliked: The only available space for non-electric was on the sloped field and we picked a bad bit (in retrospect) which made everything a bit more challenging, e.g. drinks sliding down the table! Even though we didn't need electric hook-up due to short stay I think I would have paid extra for the flat pitches they were on. We'll definitely stay again so will choose electric next time. The site is next to a train track so the early morning trains could wake you if you are a light sleeper.

Powered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: Nice location. Friendly staff.

Disliked: Nowhere walk dogs to do their ‘business’ unless you take them up the road. Understandable as is a working farm. Although everyone cleared up after their dogs not ideal when the campsite is full of children. No waste bins for dog waste either - just a skip for all rubbish up the lane by the main gate(no recycling). Maybe suggest making this a dog free site?

Liked: We liked the friendly family atmosphere created by good campsite facilities without lots of extra attractions. Lovely to be able to light a fire in the firepits they rented and cook their organic meat.

Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: Lovely place to camp. Clean and friendly. Fire pits are a really good idea, all you need including the pit itself for under £15. Great idea and well worth it! Even had a dishwasher for the little price of £1.50 and only takes 3 minutes. Showers were really nice and warm. Farm shop with a proper coffee machine to enjoy firth thing in the morning. Little padding stream to enjoy too.

Disliked: Nothing

Local attractions

Osprey, teal, crested grebe… alongside the rich variety of feathered life in Rutland Water Nature Reserve, 10 minutes' drive away, there's trout fishing to be had, plus windsurfing, sailing, boat cruises on the Rutland Belle and miles of paths for hikers and bikers to explore. Even fans of invertebrates and reptiles are included, with 75 species of crawling, scuttling and slithering things at Bugtopia, accompanied by meerkats and racoon dogs. Castle fans and history buffs will be kept busy, beetling round the solid brickwork of 12th-century Oakham Castle (15 minutes' drive), the palatial Tudor pile of Burghley House (20 minutes) and the dungeons of Newark Castle (50 minutes). Newark’s National Civil War Centre and Air Museum make the town top of the list for time travellers. For a different sort of journey, drive 15 minutes to Wansford for a puff on the steam-powered Nene Valley Railway, or explore the universe at the National Space Centre in Leicester (50 minutes). A punt down the river in Cambridge, an hour away, makes a pretty fine way to see the city and its oldest colleges, while the various museums offer everything from polar exploration to Persian carpets to particle accelerators.
