  • Well-kept adults-only site 10 minutes’ drive from Banbury, Oxfordshire
  • Silverstone Circuit 20 minutes’ drive; Blenheim Palace 40 minutes
  • Dog-friendly pitches with pubs and cafés 20 minutes’ walk away
If you’re looking for a peaceful and adults-only Oxfordshire escape, the tourer site at Highlands (10 minutes’ drive from Banbury) fits the bill very well. It’s easy to get to, being five minutes’ drive from junction 11 on the M40 and just off the A361, and has a handful of pitches with electric hook-ups in a well-maintained field sheltered by mature trees. Any doggy companions are welcome on site, and you can all set out for long meanders along the pretty Oxford Canal (20 minutes’ walk). If you’d like to be a bit more active, try a round of golf, playing tennis or kayaking on the River Cherwell (all within five minutes’ drive). For a change of scenery, there are several pubs and cafés in riverside Cropredy, a pretty village with thatched cottages and site of a well-known music festival held every August. It's a 20-minute walk from the site to Cropredy, although the lanes are narrow and windy in places, so you might prefer to drive or cycle there. Spotless facilities on site include toilets and a shower, a washing-up area, fresh water supply and Elsan point. If you feel the need for a little pampering, you can also book a private session in the hot tub.

Liked Lovely quiet adult only campsite, pitches were nice and large with hook ups and water points. Large grassed area that could be used/sat on if you wanted to catch the sun.
Owner was very friendly and helpful and provided lots of information about the local area including some nice walks.

Disliked Stayed in a slightly shady pitch underneath a large tree, had I known, I might have considered a different pitch as as well as tree debris it was quite shady.
Two of the three pitches had picnic benches, would be nice if all of the hardstanding pitches had a bench to use.

From the manager: Sorry about the leaf’s falling from the trees, yes your correct it does get shady on that pitch late afternoon due to the sun going down behind the tree, I suppose the bonus to that pitch is, you’re the first to get the sun normally about 5 am until late afternoon, benches are not mentioned as being available to any particular pitch, there are just a couple knocking around for any pitch to use and not just the hard standing pitches, I noticed you had your own table like most campers do, and maybe I should just take them away it's a little like children with toys and that way there will be no discussion. Really glad you enjoyed your stay and as you say the pitches are nice and large, good information and walks also, you are very welcome to visit again, but you may consider requesting a different pitch but you don't want one too near the road.

Liked Loved the peace of this site, surrounded by nature and was a great base to see much of the Cotswolds. John was great. Helpful and laid back. Very commonsensical. There were walks nearby aswell, the village was a 20 minute walk and the wildlife was amazing. I enjoyed watching the Red Kites.

Facilities were adequate and clean.

We enjoyed our stay.

Disliked Nothing really.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Glad you had a good time and enjoyed the walks, you and most other people that stay with us do enjoy the walks to Cropredy and the Oxford Canal, However if anyone reads this review you must understand the country lanes are narrow and without footpaths.

Local attractions

The only problem you’ll have is deciding what to do first. Warwick Castle (25 minutes’ drive) is a good place to start, with tours of its medieval banqueting hall and live jousting shows, although stately Blenheim Palace (40 minutes) holds its own with fabulous Vanbrugh-designed rooms to tour, an exhibition dedicated to Sir Winston Churchill and numerous walks in the formal gardens and parkland. For more history, head for Stratford-upon-Avon (also 40 minutes), where you can visit Shakespeare’s Birthplace, see the thatched half-timbered cottage where his wife Anne Hathaway lived, and catch his plays performed at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. If you fancy combining a sightseeing trip with a decent stroll and exercising your canine chums, National Trust - Stowe Gardens (half an hour) has several options for lakeside walks in 250 acres crammed with follies. Petrol-heads can catch the British Grand Prix (held in July) and book their own driving experiences at Silverstone Circuit. Alternatively, check out all the classic cars at the British Motor Museum (both 20 minutes), where star exhibits include Del Boy’s three-wheeler from “Only Fools and Horses” and Jackie Stewart’s F1 car.
