The folk at Wykeham Hall Camping describe their site as a fuss-free, back to basics spot with country views and plenty of wildlife. And they're bang on – this off-grid site is where to head for nearly-wild hols full of space, seclusion and smashing Lincolnshire sunsets. Set in the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there are rural walks and cycles to be had around practically every corner, including the long-distance Viking Way (a few minutes' walk from site). The site is also very close to the east-west A631, making it easy to get off to Market Rasen (15 minutes' drive), the east coast (30 minutes) or Lincoln (40 minutes). Make sure to pack a decent torch and spare batteries if you're staying here – there's no electricity at this essentials-only site, and it gets very dark at night. The lack of light pollution certainly comes with its pluses, though – the stars shine particularly brightly in this neck of the woods, and you might even catch a glimpse of the Milky Way on clearer nights. Portaloos are available at Wykeham Hall Camping, and there's cold running water on tap, but other than that you'll be pretty much left to your own devices here. Bonfire socials and outdoor cookouts are welcome; feel free to bring the dog along. (Please note the wild pitches have no running water or loos, so please bring your own portable toilet and water if staying in this area.)
