  • Family-friendly Lincolnshire caravan park at Chapel St Leonards
  • Ingoldmells Beach 15 minutes’ walk; Fantasy Island 10 minutes’ drive
  • Fishing (additional fee) and tackle shop; pubs 10 minutes’ drive
Tucked into the seaside village of Chapel St Leonards, 15 minutes’ drive from Skegness on the Lincolnshire coast, Lakeland Caravan Park is a family-run and family-friendly caravan park that's somewhat removed from the busy main east-coast seaside resorts. Being a popular place, this site still gets busy during the school holidays, so if you’re after a quieter sojourn, it's best to book for spring or autumn. But whichever month you choose for your break, you'll be staying on a well-drained pitch with electric hook-up, and you can use toilets, showers and washing-up facilities in the brick facilities block, which has disabled access. Dogs are welcome and can be walked on Ingoldmells Beach (15 minutes’ stroll). Having the beach nearby is excellent of course, and another one of the big draws at this site is the fishing– there's a lake within the grounds where, for an additional fee, anglers can cast out their lines most days. Twice-weekly matches are open to all caravan site guests, too, but just note that the lake will be closed for all other fishing on these two days. There’s a very well-stocked tackle shop selling fresh bait and everything from budget rod-and-reel deals to get novices started to fishing gear from top brands. Sea fishing is also available from Ingoldmells Beach. Anything else you might need? There are shops, lots of pubs, amusement arcades and night-time entertainment all within 10 minutes’ drive of the pitches.

What customers say

Great spot by the beach with ace staff. Spacious, flat pitches. Facilities clean but a bit dated, a walk from tents. Geese and the odd noisy punter mentioned. Fishing's a go. Good value for family hols or a chill seaside escape.

Liked We enjoyed our stay as a family of 5 at Lakeland. We especially loved the sea being so close that at night you could hear the waves. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Me and my family are very new to the caravan Scene and I had infact booked this site not knowing our caravan was to big for it. The man who run the site was more than helpful and still allowed us to stay despite this. We also got caught in traffic and were late arriving. A simple phone call and this was again absolutely fine. Toilet block was cleaned regularly and we saw no problem however used our caravan more than the block. Thank you for accepting us to say although we broke the rules and accommodating my family.

Disliked There was nothing to dislike. My only thing I would say is this site is small. Obviously my caravan was larger than what was allowed however even if it were the correct size everyone is very close to eachother. There are plenty of families on the site and sadly with the amount staying there isn’t much place for children to be just children and play outside. A play area would be great even if it’s just an empty spot that children could Kick a ball, play a game of tag or whatever it may be the space just isn’t there for them.

Liked Location to the beach was lovely! (Albeit rubbish along the path to the beach was annoying, but that’s not the sites fault)
People there were lovely! Tackle shop was a decent size and kept my husband entertained! The pitch size was a decent size but you were close to other people!

Disliked Nothing to note really!

Liked Distance to the beach, literally over the road.

Bins provided along every few pitches.

Toilets clean and always had toilet roll.

Washing up area good.

Disliked The small “town” that is walking distance is an absolute dive.

Requested a pitch next to family who were arriving on the same day at the same time. When we got there, no pitches that were available were next to each other. Family ended up on the other side of the field.

After putting our tent up, we were told we couldn’t have our side porch on as we would be too close to other tents and it would be a fire hazard. Baring in mind multiple tents were joined by gazebos.

The pitches are virtually on top of each other, we were that close to the tent next door, that their dog who was tethered on a lead weed on my babies pushchair that was on our pitch.

If you leave your pitch for more than a second, someone else will either be pitched in your parking space or parked there. We got back from being out one day and the owner had told the new tent next door to park in our space.

The shower block is a stupidly long walk away from the tent field, it’s actually in the field with the caravans and motorhomes in… who have their own toilets anyway?

We paid £10 for a fob for the toilet block, the door was never locked so it wasn’t even needed.

There is only two showers per gender.

One of the two showers in the women’s side has an open window in, which has no handle so can’t be closed. You can literally be seen by people that have caravans or are walking past. I was having to put my towels in front of it whilst in the shower.

Shower floor was always filthy with dirt or sand.

Showers occasionally stay on for a max 3 seconds once the button is pressed, if not then you have to hold it.

Water feature on the fishing lake is insanely loud and left on throughout the night.

All of the roads on the site are dust, our tent is absolutely covered in dust as whenever a car drove past it would fly everywhere.

The bins provided are a good idea, but they absolutely stunk.

No play area at all for children.

Liked The location is very good , about 15min walk to shops etc , there is a bus stop at the end of the shops , opposite cherry trees , goes to Mablethorpe and Skegness, and fantasy island, very frequent so if u miss one there's another in 10mins

Disliked The showers are so busy they generally dirty , no hooks in the shower itself , push button on shower so get 5secs , we got into it eventually, had 6 nights here

Local attractions

Fan of bright lights and big amusements? The famed Fantasy Island theme park (10 minutes’ drive) in Skegness opens up stalls and rides when summertime hits. There’s more action over at Skegness Pier (20 minutes), including bowling and laser tag games. If you’re keener to avoid crowds and unwind on quiet sands, Sutton on Sea (20 minutes) should do the trick with its long sandy beach. Another secluded bay is Huttoft beach (15 minutes), a quiet stretch where many folk like to go surfing, swimming and fishing. Inland, take your hiking boots off to the trails of the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape (20 minutes). For some wildlife watching, there are a couple of really nice spots within a short drive of the park. The first is Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve (25 minutes), a seasonal habitat for waders, wildfowl and birds of prey set back along the coast. The other is Natureland Seal Sanctuary (20 minutes), a centre that rescues seal pups. Other adorable residents include alpacas, penguins, reptiles and colourful butterflies, so there should be plenty to feast your eyes on.
