  • Family park a short drive from Mablethorpe
  • Coarse fishing pond, indoor pool and kids' club
  • Adventure playground, soft play area and bar lounge serving food
Had enough of the boss making you do all the donkey work? Fed up with working like a pack mule? Feel like it’s been donkey’s years since your last holiday? Come and kick your heels with the real donkeys on Mablethorpe beach for a few days instead. Set on the north Lincolnshire coast 20 minutes' drive from Louth, Sunnydale Holiday Park opens out onto a wide stretch of sandy beach for seaside strolls, and is a 15-minute drive from the family-friendly cluster of beachy activities in the resort of Mablethorpe (think fairground rides, donkeys and crazy golf… along with chip-eating and sandcastle-building of course). Dipped your toe in the sea and declared it a touch chilly for swims? Get your cossie on back at the park, where the indoor pool promises suitably heated waters in all weather. And if you'd rather sit by the water than dunk yourself in it, bring along a rod licence for days spent by the site's coarse fishing pond. Keeping the kids busy should be straightforward here: there are great kids’ clubs for children under 11, an adventure playground and soft play area, plus a range of organised sports activities on land and in the pool. During the summer there's also a range of lively shows laid on to keep the whole family entertained for the evening. And keeping everyone fed and watered should be a cinch too, as the lounge bar has you sorted for a good range of grub (and suitable drinks) at breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus snacks throughout the day.

Liked: Peaceful and small.

Disliked: Rules that meant you could not pitch a Day Tent, these rules were not stipulated on Pitch up. We erected it and we're told to take it down. We had nowhere to store our supplies, this stopped us touring the local area. We left a day early because of it. The mamager was very obtuse and unhelpful. The ladies toilet block was unclean, one toilet blocked and in a bad state for all ladies to see. Hand soap had ran out and was not refilled.

Liked: Plenty of pitch space, some friendly very helpful staff

Disliked: Smaller than advertised, just one park where kids gathered and had fights, very small entertainment area/facilities, toilet block was disgusting, spoke to receptionist who said they were cleaned every morning at 5am this was a complete lie, showers tiny, one of the ladies toilets was blocked the entire 11 days!

Liked: Fishing, pool and bar

Disliked: Most of the site was flooded. On the touring site there were 12 caravans, 4 vans including ours were holidaying, the other 8 were irish workers with their work vans, with them comeing and going the parts that weren't flooded was all mud that was churned up. It didn't feel like a holiday camp site. It could be a good site. We will never go back

Liked: Lovely and peaceful surroundings. We went early in May . Shower block clean and tidy. Shop was ok but not a lot in there food wise but able to purchase milk and used the amusement arcade. There is a local shop and petrol station not far away with a couple of pubs also. We went to the local seaside towns for a day out. Enjoyed it and would definitely stay again. The Wi-Fi was meant to free however I couldn’t access it so used my own data from my hotspot. Too pricey at £5.95 per day you can if staying for a week buy more but in my opinion want worth it.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Local attractions

For seaside days, start by making for Mablethorpe (15 minutes' drive), where there's a lengthy stretch of sandy beach and a seal sanctuary to repair to if it's not paddle-worthy weather (or, understandably, you just like to coo over cute creatures…) Cleethorpes (35 minutes) is another good bet for a beachy day, especially if you schedule in a trip on the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway – it's one of the UK's oldest seaside steam railways, and can fittingly take you to the smallest pub on the planet. Mix up coast days with country outings to go horse riding in the Lincolnshire Wolds (25 minutes), meet friendly farm animals at Rushmoor Farm Park (15 minutes) or see how medieval folk lived at Tattershall Castle (50 minutes). For a bit of city time it’s about an hour’s drive to Lincoln, with its gorgeous castle, cathedral and culture (not forgetting the shops).
