  • Small, peaceful family-run site 20 minutes' walk from Old Leake
  • 25 minutes' drive from the beach at Skegness
  • Three well-stocked lakes on site for year-round fishing
Fishing folks, feast your eyes on this. Crash in a cosy pod at Lincolnshire’s Lakeview Camping Pods and not only will you get a lovely lake view (you’ll be forgiven for taking that for granted, given the name), you’ll also be mere minutes from casting your rod into the water. Indeed, if you’re so inclined you could spend your whole break by the lakes – there are three of them on site for year-round fishing, stocked with carp (common and mirror), rudd, bream and roach. Not really that into fishing (gasp)? There are plenty of lake views for you too – and easy access to fenland walks, bike rides and birdwatching. You might even consider leaving the place behind in favour of day trips to the beach at Skegness or the markets of Boston, both of which are within a half-hour drive. Should you wish to enhance your rural retreat with a fresh-air cookout, you’ll be chuffed to see that each pod is kitted out with a barbecue stand to perch your disposable on while you sizzle a sausage or few. If you’re more of a country pub type, get walking – your local is about a 10-minute trot away, and there’s more 20 minutes away in the nearest village, Old Leake, where there’s also a small supermarket and a kids’ play area.

The Hideaway shepherd's hut

Liked: Beautiful setting. Very quiet and peaceful. The shepherd's hut was spotless when we arrived. It has all the cooking utensils ect you need. Beds made up. The fishing, wow! Never seen as many fish! My husband was in fishing heaven. We will definitely be back. Infact my husband and son have booked to go back for a boys weekend in a few weeks! Thank you for a fantastic stay!

Disliked: Having to come home!

Hive camping pod

Liked: We stayed for two nights in 'The Hive' pod and we were not disappointed. Even after booking the night before, the owner got in touch very quickly and made entering the accommodation easy. She was very friendly and always on the end of a phone when we needed to contact her. The pod itself was absolutely stunning! The layout has been well thought out and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We also liked how it had a toilet which suited our family with a youngster. The views outside the pod were beautiful and it was very peaceful and calm. There is a space for BBQs and a fire pit where you can really enjoy the camping feel. We only had one minor issue (and it was so minor it didn't impact our stay) and the owners sorted it promptly. We would highly recommend anyone to stay here and will definitely be returning. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The Hideaway shepherd's hut

Liked: Nice site, great view of the lake from shepherd's hut. Very relaxing and quite place. We have a great night sleep, very comfortable bed.

Disliked: Nothing major, just electric kettle needs some attention-descaling. Also would be nice to have salt and pepper, basic things.

Hive camping pod

Liked: We had such a restful time here staying in the hive as a family of four, it had everything we needed in the kitchen area, even washing up liquid and was clean and beautiful. I just loved the firepit and relaxing by the lake. The site is so well kept and was so quiet and peaceful, we loved watching all the ducks everyday. The location is a short drive for days out but that was perfect for us, to return from an adventure to relax. Showers and toilets were immaculate. Ps. You don't need to fish to enjoy a stay here!

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked: The place is very pretty. We had a view of the lake and was very happy with the stay

Disliked: You can hear a lot from the road but nothing major. The pitch was a good size for our trailer tent, on the hard standing. I was going to take my tent but glad we didn’t as the grass wasn’t big enough for it.

Local attractions

It’s not all about the fishing – this is a fine place for folks who fancy a bit of rural rambling or riding. There are plenty of quiet lanes and footpaths around for a bike ride or a walk (excellent news for those bringing a canine pal), and some super nature trails for birdwatchers at the RSPB Freiston Shore reserve, 15 minutes away. Advanced equine handlers may be in the area for dressage lessons or competitions five minutes away at Sheepgate Equestrian; those with less refined skills or who just fancy seeing some of the countryside from horseback can join lessons or hacks from a riding centre 10 minutes away instead. Steer seawards and you’ll hit Skegness in about 15 minutes for beach days and trips to its aquarium, seal sanctuary and go-kart track. Head inland instead to visit the market town of Boston (20 minutes) for boat trips and the bubblecar museum, or take your shopoholic self to the antique centres of Horncastle, half an hour away.
