Base yourself at Valley View Campsite for a peaceful, adults-only stay among Leicestershire hills and valleys near Market Harborough, or use the place as a base for day trips to the bright lights of Birmingham (an hour’s drive). Either way, those far-reaching rural views come as standard on all the spacious pitches. No-frills facilities cover spotlessly clean showers and loos. Barbecues are allowed or you can pick up takeaways in Fleckney (five minutes’ drive) and eat in The Barn, an undercover communal dining area for unwinding, meeting fellow guests and doing the washing up. If the weather is behaving and conditions are right, you may catch some colourful sunrises and sunsets, and as the area has a low level of light pollution, some serious stargazing is possible on clear nights. The site is also something of a wildlife haven, so keep your eyes peeled for sparrow hawks and buzzards, rabbits and deer. Dogs are welcome at Valley View, and there’s a separate area where you can take them for exercise.

Liked Helen was super friendly and very helpful. The view over the valley was lovely! There was a footpath along the bottom of the valley too. The facilities were clean, and the common room was very comfortable.

Liked Took a late booking from us due to heavy traffic we couldn’t get to our destination, a lovely site flat and level, very helpful owners and nice facilities with a room to eat and relax in with sofas.

Liked A lovely site. Helen met me on arrival and offered me a couple of different spots to pitch my tent. She also gave me some tips for a local running route.

The facilities are clean, tidy and well presented and there’s a great common area for people to use to and it’s a great dark sky area to for stargazing

Liked Very welcoming and amazing view from the pitch we chose. Loved the sofa and kettle/toaster area, much appreciated on a foggy morning! Nice clean shower area with the added bonus of the coffee making area in the same building.

Liked Great view over the valley - one of the most memorable that we’ve been to over the last three years that we have been motorhoming we.
Facilities very clean.

Starting in the village of Mowsley, have a wander on foot around the Laughton Hills or do some exploring on horseback from the local riding stables (both five minutes’ drive). For a gentle stroll, follow the Grand Union Canal towpath out of the village – it’s an easy walk to Foxton Locks (10 minutes), where you can watch barges ascend a flight of 10 locks, hire a boat to chug along the canal yourself, or have a nose around Foxton Canal Museum (15 minutes). Exercise completed for the day? Foxton Locks Inn is the spot for a virtuous post-walk pint and a bite to eat. If you have the urge to spend some of your hard-earned cash, Market Harborough (15 minutes’ drive) is packed with antiques emporiums and unusual shops, or try Lutterworth (20 minutes) for its historic Thursday market and stick around for a tour of elegant 17th-century Stanford Hall (20 minutes, check opening dates before you visit).
