  • Peaceful Greater London rural setting near major road and rail links
  • Accommodation in cosy Wild West-themed bunkhouses
  • Alpacas and sheep to meet on site; pubs a short walk away
London calling – or a countryside break? This splendid little site has easy acces to both. Greater London's Fuzzy's Farm is in a rural setting just outside the village of Potten End, between the towns of Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead – deep in scenic countryside but within easy reach of major road and rail links; London is just over an hour away by train or bus. Escape the city for a weekend, go wild for a bit, dart along to ZSL Whipsnade Zoo or Warner Brothers Studio Tour London… all are close by. You'll be greeted by the resident alpacas when you stay here, and a group of sheep are around for a friendly and fuzzy welcome too. Off site, the village green and two pubs are a few minutes' stroll away and several walks are available close by. Accommodation is in wooden bunkhouses with a Wild West theme. Each has a double bunk bed with a single above it and two additional bunks. There is power, lighting and heating, plus all cooking utensils and a fridge. Each unit has its own toilet, while a communal hot shower and washing-up area are housed a short distance away. Please note that no smoking is allowed on site.

Bunkhouse (five person)

Liked: The host was amiable and welcoming. He is a good entertainer for our kids. There is ample space for kids to play and we had a clear sight of them all the time. we had a BBQ and corn in the fire pit. I would recommend this place for friends, and family with kids. Our kids had a farm tour, which the host had toured both days. there are alpacas and sheep. My little miss the alpaca sunny.

Disliked: There is no water in the toilet for hand was and other than that the rest is good.

Local attractions

There's plenty to do if you just want to stay close to base during your tipi trip: pick up maps from the owners for details of countryside strolls. It's also only half a mile from here to the Mad Squirrel Brewery for tours and tastings (and pizza), as well as a brewery shop selling award-wining beers; tours run on the last Saturday of the month. A walk of about three miles – or a drive of under 10 minutes – will have you at Berkhamsted, a handsome market town with over 80 listed buildings and several antique shops. Film fans may want to catch a show at Berkhamsted's Rex Cinema, hailed as Britain's best cinema and described as 'absolutely awe-inspiring' by one Dame J Dench. Hiking, biking and moutain biking routes are all around Berkhamsted, including at the National Trust's Ashridge Estate just outside town, a place of chalklands, meadows and wildlife-laden woodland: come here to spot deer, woodpeckers, tawny owls, and bats swooping overhead on a summer's eve. By car, kids should like a day at the Natural History Museum at Tring (15 minutes' drive) and will surely clamour for some time on the Warner Brothers Studio Tour London, within 20 minutes. ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is also 20 minutes from the farm.
