Enter the four-acre orchard field and cosy into a spot at Engine Meadow Camping. A wildlife haven on a working farm site in rural Gloucestershire, this site is well-situated for strolls along the old Gloucester canal and the local market towns, as Gloucester is 15 minutes’ drive away. Between the snug setting of the towns, you can also rove under the treetops (or saunter down rivers canoe-style) in the Forest of Dean, 35 minutes' drive away, or top the peaks in the Malvern Hills, a 40-minute drive. On site, simply unpack, unwind and try spotting the Malvern Hills in the distance. Things are kept pretty basic on site, with showers, portable toilets and a washing-up area you can use to tend to any leftover pans from barbecues on site. If cycling is your thing, join the nearby Newent Loop cycle trail within five minutes’ drive. Perhaps take a tour of the local market towns or just unwind in the pleasant country lanes. You’ll find plenty of pitstops along the way for a chilled drink or food to refuel, including several restaurants and pubs within 10 minutes’ drive in Hartpury or Newent. If you want to source some scrumptious local produce, there’s also a farm shop within 10 minutes’ drive. There are regular shops within the same distance too, in case you’re missing any of the essentials.
