  • Spacious site on a working dairy farm near Chipping Sodbury
  • Less than a mile from the Cotswold Way walking trail
  • Large communal barn with kitchen area, games and cosy seating
What a spot for a campfire. Cracking open a bottle of something or other and poking a marshmallow (or bag thereof) in the crackling embers as the sun sets over the surrounding countryside – sounds like an excellent way to spend an evening... The team at Cotswold Meadow Camping are clearly in agreement, as they’ve added firepits for guests to use, and sell firewood to save you lugging your own up here. Outdoor seating and barbies are also on site, for grownups' food prep while kids charge around the open space playing games or flying kites. If there's a drizzly day, shift your party to the gathering barn, a cosy space lit with fairy lights and stocked with board games and cards to play after you’ve cooked up your dinner in the communal kitchen. The generous folk here have even chucked in free tea and coffee for a warming cuppa whenever you want. Alternatively, you may prefer to retreat to the pub – there are seven (one for every day of a week-long stay?) in nearby Chipping Sodbury, 10 minutes’ drive away, and several dotted around the local countryside that also make top sipping stops while you’re trotting along the nearby Cotswold Way.

Local attractions

Not only is this a gorgeous spot, it’s also a strategic location to settle in for activities and attractions. For starters, the 100-mile Cotswold Way passes less than a mile away; there are plenty of circular walks locally too if you don’t fancy the long-distance ramble. Also good for a wander are the area’s historic houses – National Trust properties Newark Park, Dyrham Park and Prior Park are all within a half-hour drive, as is Berkeley Castle, home to the same family for 900 years. Or take the 20-minute drive to Westonbirt Arboretum to roam among the 15,000 trees (don’t miss the ace views from the treetop walkway). Bristol (half an hour’s drive) and Bath (40 minutes) are stuffed full of attractions for all ages, and the Cattle Country Adventure Park, half an hour away, is a great destination for those with kids in tow.
