General
- Glamping site 10 minutes' walk from Moreton-in-Marsh town centre
- Within an hour's drive of Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick
- Playground, miniature golf course and barbecue facilities on site
Ah, the Cotswolds… a classic chunk of English countryside that draws folk from all over the world to walk, cycle or drive through its pretty villages and lovely lanes. What more could you want on top of all that? How about tuk-tuk rides, birds of prey and swish evenings out at the opera?
All these are within a 15-minute drive… and yet you still want more? Then more is what you shall have at Moreton-in-Marsh Experience Freedom Glamping, a gorgeous little glamping spot in the Gloucestershire countryside. For starters, the site is an easy 10-minute walk from the town of Moreton-in-Marsh (and, perhaps more importantly, its shops, cafés and pubs).
Next up, the lodges themselves, which are smart wooden numbers with comfy bedding, ensuite bathrooms and well-equipped kitchens (huzzah – no need to haul heaps of kit with you… particularly excellent news for those arriving by train). Each lodge also has a spacious private deck with a brick barbecue and outdoor furniture for settling in to sip something or other while admiring the scenery.
If you’ve brought along small sorts who aren’t so taken with such lengthy periods of putting your feet up, they’re welcome to scuttle off to the playground or whack a few balls about at the miniature golf course; there’s also a wifi connection if they simply can’t be parted from their gadgets. A launderette is on hand if you’ve managed to get mucky on your travels, and there’s also a small shop on site if you’ve forgotten any vital bits.

Local attractions
Surely it’s the country walks that beckon first off, and a good place to start is the Moreton-in-Marsh circular walk, which links the site with Bourton-on-Water and Sezincote, passing churches, the exotic Indian-inspired Sezincote House and Longborough’s opera house en route. If you’ve got limited time or fancy a different mode of getting the miles in, summon a driver from Cotswold Tuk Tuk Tours (15 minutes’ drive) or get behind the wheel of something sizeable on the four wheel drive circuits at Mud Mayhem (15 minutes).
Around a half-hour walk from the site (or five-minute drive) are Batsford Arboretum, for garden strolls and craft workshops, and the excellent Cotswold Falconry Centre, where you can see the big birds in action or sign up to handle them yourself.
There are oodles of pretty villages around the Cotswolds, but also several big sights to see: Stratford-upon-Avon (25 minutes’ drive) and Oxford (50 minutes) are both fab for day trips, as are Blenheim Palace (half an hour) and Warwick Castle (35 minutes).
