What customers say

Great Forest of Dean spot with forest access & views. Friendly staff, clean (though a bit old) facilities, and a peaceful vibe are big hits. Perfect for walks/cycles, often see deer. Some sloping pitches, weak Wi-Fi/phone. Highly recommended for nature buffs!

Unpowered grass site

Liked The site was lovely and clean and in a perfect spot for walks.

Disliked So many loud campers after 10 and other campers taking up more room than they really should. Ie outdoor seating areas. The on site shop and food could be better.

Unpowered grass site

Liked fantastic location next to the forest and great walks straight from site
good showers
the staff were really helpful about everything (apart from comment below)

Disliked We stayed during a very busy weekend and staff were not able to keep on top of the rules for people to pitch 6 metres apart from each other. We were unlucky with some very close and noisey neighbours.

Liked Immaculately clean facilities!
Lovely friendly staff, great location.

Disliked Pitches were very hilly. Pitches should be marked out for numerous reasons- no clear boundaries and people were just slotted in anywhere.

Liked Very close to forest, peaceful, well maintained, clean and excellent shower toilet facilities. Bike hire available close by. Very enjoyable stay with our 11yr old and 15yr old. Plenty to do and visitor centre/cafe a walk away...we visited caves and GoApe tree top challenge and a walk through the forest to Symonds Yat....will be back!

Disliked Wifi not great but not a major problem on a camping trip..

Liked Friendly staff, electric tent pitches were on even ground, plenty of space to pitch. Despite the campsite being busy there was never a queue for the showers/washing facilities. There was always hot water available. Shop was well stocked with reasonable prices if you've forgotten any essentials.
Entry and exit in a vehicle required a code which makes the site feel more secure.
Lovely walks nearby, great BBQ hut available for a daily hire. Appears to be a fantastic site to use as a cycling base.
Pretty good WiFi signal (especially considering this is free).
Cleaning and washing areas were always pristine and clean.

Disliked The non-electric pitches appeared quite hilly but I didn't look at them all.
Bit of a trek for the chemical disposal areas which are sparsely scattered around.

Route directions

The route via Symonds Yat Rock over Huntsham Bridge B4432 has a 1:5 gradient incline. It's a very narrow road, unsuitable for large RVs and motorhomes, and difficult for those towing caravans. Vehicles over seven and a half tonnes are prohibited. Instead, from the A40, take the exit for Forest of Dean and Coleford A4136 (Staunton Road). Continue for five miles, then turn left onto Grove Road. After half a mile, turn left onto Bracelands Drive. The campsite is at the end on the right.

Local attractions

There’s simply masses to do in the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley – from adventurous outings to cultural visits. Get the kids up and active with a visit to Go Ape Beechenhurst (15 minutes’ drive) for Segway tours and zooming down zipwires, and head for the Forest of Dean Adventure Park Bracelands Site (five minutes) for jumping around on ropes, climbing towers and practising archery. Or maybe you fancy kayaking down the River Wye from Wyedean (15 minutes)? For less strenuous days out, have an amble around the mossy woodland trails at Puzzlewood (10 minutes), or get your culture fix at National Trust-owned Westbury Court Garden (25 minutes), with delightful formal plantings around an ornamental lake. Lunchtime? Pack a picnic and eat it at Symonds Yat Rock (five minutes) while enjoying the view of the River Wye winding through its gorge. Prefer a pub? The renowned half-timbered Saracens Head Inn (15 minutes) sits on the river bank and is a great place to stop for lunch or a glass of something chilled. And to say you’ve been to Wales, hop across the border to Monmouth (20 minutes) and tour its castle and military museum.
