  • Spacious family-owned site in the Cotswolds
  • Five minutes' drive from Cirencester and 25 from Cheltenham
  • A 15-minute drive from Bibury and the start of the Thames Path
A getaway full of fab scenery, peaceful wanders and historical streetscapes… and bringing the dog along for the journey? It’s a cinch at Mayfield Park, a family-friendly and family-owned Gloucestershire site five minutes’ drive from the market town of Cirencester and the pretty village of Bibury. This is a top spot to use as a base for explores of the spectacular Cotswolds. Overlooking the Churn valley, the site has easy access to plenty of local walks and scenic villages – just ask in reception for recommendations – and the long-distance Thames Path (so long it’ll take ramblers all the way to London) starts about 15 minutes’ drive away for lengthy treks. Exploring without needing to use feet or pedals is simple round here too: the bus route for Cirencester and Cheltenham passes the site and there’s a stop about 100 feet from the entrance; otherwise pile everyone into the car for the five-minute ride to Cirencester or the 25-minute canter to Cheltenham. Be sure to head back to the site in time to catch the sun setting over the fields, then settle in for an evening of barbecues as canine pals stretch out in the grass. Want a break from cooking? Sniff out one of the local pubs serving local eats to get a taste of Gloucestershire.

What customers say

Good facilities, friendly staff, great Cotswolds base. Expect road noise, some sloped/tight pitches, and limited Wi-Fi.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Friendly helpful owner. Location ideal for exploring this lovely part of England with quaint villages, beautiful countryside and loads of history. Nice pitch for our campervan with hedges for privacy.

Disliked Noise from nearby road. It didn’t disturb us too much but anyone wanting silence should be aware.

Powered grass site (sloping)

Liked Lovely site, second time visiting. Amenities kept lovely and clean, friendly hosts and staff. Pitches are generous and they were able to move us to a hard standing pitch instead of grass , which was much better with the rain.

Disliked I only left off one star due to the noise I'm a light sleeper and in a tent can hear the freight rains at night. But that is no fault of the site.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked There was a post office 5 minute drive away.

Disliked Next to a loud dual carriage way which is apparent all night, no kids bikes or scooters etc allowed on site. Most of the pitches were permanent residents so felt straight out of place amongst them. Toilet block wasn’t the cleanest if I’m honest and the site is set on a hill with small level pitches. No WiFi unless you walk to the bottom of the hill.

Only site I’ve ever been to (been doing this for many years now) where the owner or site manager didn’t come over to our pitch and ask if everything was ok. Not even a hello when travelling past. Not impressed.

Local attractions

With Cheltenham racecourse a mere 30 minutes’ drive away, this site is a prime pick for horsey types – but if the gee-gees don’t have the family galloping for joy, there are other four-legged, fleet and feathered options at the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, also half an hour from base. If the Cotswold Gardens grow enthusiasm for stately houses and grand designs, there’s plenty else hereabouts to entice: Chavenage House, Berkeley Castle, Bowood House, Sudeley Castle, Newark Park and Dyrham Park are all within an hour for old piles, and Westonbirt Arboretum and the gardens at Highgrove (Charlie and Camilla’s royal digs) are definitely worth a turn half an hour away. For more urban explores, start 15 minutes from the site in the scenic village of Bibury to have a poke around the Chedworth Roman Villa, travel on to Bourton-on-the-Water (20 minutes) for Birdland, a maze, a motoring museum and a model village, then take things up a notch in Cirencester, where there are Roman remains, museums, markets, parks and a manor house all waiting for visitors. Keep things soothingly low-key with a spin on the Swindon and Cricklade steam railway, 25 minutes away, or get a bit more active with watersports, paintball, fishing and horse riding at Cotswold Water Park or an adrenaline-fuelled day at the Gloucestershire Rally School, both within 20 minutes.
