Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Signposted very well & great spacious outdoor area. Little discount for being a solo camper, which was very much appreciated. Was a 10 minute walk to a Nisa local which was part of a petrol station so had means of grabbing last minute things if you need. A small walk into Bamford too, so was plenty to see. 4 portaloos on site that were clean and stocked with toilet roll. Great little place to stay overnight. :)

Disliked: A suggestion more than anything. Unfortunately, the pitch next to me had music playing until 00:15am despite the site having a notice saying "No Music". Possibly include a round of patrolling to ensure adhering to the campsites requests. As a solo female traveller, approaching a group of people in the middle of the night is a no go for me. I guess it's a risk you take with going to a campsite, however having people stick to the requests of the campsite is always nice.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Lovely clean site. This is a basic campsite, but the field is huge. It only has 4 portaloos, but these were considerably clean. The farmer came in the morning and gave them a good clean. Nice little walk to the anglers inn. This pub has a very relaxed YHA vibe. Also a nice walk to the garage to treat my daughter to hot chocolate. They also stock a nice selection of ales, including farmers.

Disliked: I've only given this 4 stars and this has nothing to do with the field itself as this was more than pleasant for a 1 night stay....... however, it was a Saturday and quiet busy. The sign on the gate clearly states "quiet site" "no music" however there was a group 2 tents away booming music until almost 1am!! My daughter was unable to sleep and kept asking when it would stop. Subsequently we were both too tired to get up early and make the most of a full day. Unfortunately selfish campers pitch up anywhere, so this is not a reflection on the site itself merely down to personal experience on that night. I'd still return and hope for more considerate neighbours.

Local attractions

An afternoon by the lido? It’s only a five minutes’ drive to reach such a place from Hope Valley Campsite. Add five to 10 minutes onto your journey time and you could be on an underground boat trip at Speedwell Cavern (10 minutes) or taking a tour around the slate, stalagmites and stalactites at Blue John Cavern (15 minutes). For a little stroll and some fur (or in the alpacas’ case, wool) therapy, Mayfield Alpacas Animal Park (15 minutes) may be your next stop – the animal park has skunks, meerkats and other creatures too. As for those staple activities associated with the Peak District, a cycle down the disused railway on the Monsal Trail (20 minutes) is nicely followed by a brew and Bakewell pudding along the riverbank and medieval bridge in Bakewell (25 minutes). There’s a stepping stones walk at Chee Dale (half an hour) or the huge grounds at Chatsworth House (25 minutes) when you’re in need of more wanderings (or time with the playgrounds and farmyard animals, in the case of the latter). Buxton (half an hour), a thermal spa town, is equal parts peaceful and historic, with a heritage trail you may want to follow instead.
