Forget-me-not tent with picnic table and barbecue

  • Small glamping site in the Peak District National Park near Matlock
  • Bakewell, Dovedale and Chatsworth Estate within 25 minutes' drive
  • Cosy bell tents with proper beds, next to the High Peak Trail
Days spent roaming around the Peak District National Park, nights spent cosying up under canvas but in comfy beds… sound like your kind of break? If so, make for Minninglow view, in the southern stretch of the national park about 20 minutes' drive from Matlock. Walkers and cyclists will be in their element here, as this site is just next to the High Peak Trail, a 17.5-mile traffic-free trail that makes a great way to see some of the surrounding scenery. There are plenty more routes around the area too, of course, plus options galore for days out: perhaps trying out the watersports at Carsington Water, visiting the famed Chatsworth Estate or riding all the rollercoasters at Alton Towers. Perhaps you'd also like to throw some fishing into the mix? That’s easily done, as the site has its own fishing pond that guests can use for an extra fee payable on site – you’ll need to bring your own kit and follow the catch-and-release policy. Back at base after whatever activity you've chosen, you’ll be staying in cosy bell tents that have been well spaced around a field with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. Each one has beds made up for your arrival and a cool box filled with ice so you can keep food and drinks cold ready for your evening meal – which you can cook up on your barbecue and serve at your picnic table. Shared facilities include a shower block with several cubicles and several eco-friendly compost toilets.

Liked: First time camping in uk. Great place with friendly host, although we arrive late, we still have good information to get to. Nice shower facilities with hot water and good pressure. Beautiful and clean site. Site is large, plenty of space. Toilet block is clean.

Disliked: The toilet is a bit too high for female.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Location, fuss free, scenery, price, facilities. Minninglow offered everything we wanted for our first weekend away in our tentbox.
The toilets are really clean and the showers are shabby chic, wild camping with an added bit of luxury.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike about this place.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Nice simple site with composting toilets and hot gas powered showers with good water pressure.
Which is essentially all i need for day to day living. First field you drive in to is reasonably flat and all grass, the field with the facilities and site trailer reception is on more of a hill. Dry stone wall surrounds with a treeline to the bottom near the entrance road. Lovely clear views of the Tissington trail and Minninglow barrow from the top, which can be a little windy.

The site is roughly 2.5 miles away a few villages if you would like a pub meal or about 20 mins from Ashbourne for daily goods.

Lovely little location, simple but effective away from daily life distractions and very little phone reception. Great little getaway and worth the money

Disliked: nothing
