  • Family-run Edale site at the start of the Pennine Way
  • A 20-minute drive from Ladybower Reservoir; 25 minutes from Buxton
  • Half a mile from a café, pub, railway station and visitor centre
Whether you're looking to get a toehold on craggy rock faces or fancy a taste of slow-paced village life, you can't go far wrong with a stay at this fab Peak District park. Head to Newfold Farm Campsite for hols full of hikes, cycles and hilly explores – the start of the long-distance Pennine Way is a few steps from the site entrance, with many other top rural spots a short drive away. Newbies seeking tips on what to get up to in the local area will be in good hands here – this family-run site is owned and operated by born-and-bred Edale folk who are more than happy to share their wisdom. The community-minded village is also home to a volunteer-run visitor centre, an independent café, a pizzeria and a lovely local pub. A railway station is less than half a mile away from base, so leaving the car at home is definitely an option for those heading here. Not that driving is an unpleasant business in this part of the world – on the road you'll pass by oodles of historic villages, valley views and grand country houses, including spectacular Chatsworth House… Dogs are welcome to join you at Newfold Farm Campsite; barbecues and bonfires are also allowed.

Grouse unpowered grass tent site

Liked Very nice site and lovely staff, the amenities were great and well stocked. Absolutely breath taking scenery from walks straight from the campsite.

Disliked Seemed like the field was very crowded, and was quite loud with other guest returning from the pub until 12pm, and lots of them talking and laughing until the early hours of the morning.

Grouse unpowered grass tent site

Liked Great site & very helpful and friendly staff.

Disliked Not enough toilets / urinals and having to press the shower button every 4 seconds for it to work. WiFi isn’t the best but you are up in the peaks.

Grouse unpowered grass tent site

Liked The farm shop was stocked with a good variety of local produce and fresh veg. The friday night bbq put on by the farm staff was lovely with good choices for sides an salad. Satirday night pizzas were perfect The bar and café were clean, tidy well presented with good beers and other options to choose from. Food menus were great as were the deserts an ice creams. Service always friendly. Spacious pitches, beautiful scenery. The wash room/toilet facilites on thr main field were modern, fresh, well maintained, warm and well equipped for families. Perfectly situated for walks or for famous looking to relax and play. Free wifi was a great added bonus

Disliked There is a noise reduction rule in place from around 10pm which was not followed by all. Some rowdy late night drinking and lairy behaviour I found a little disrespectful, scared our 8 year old who was not used to it being her 1st time camping. There didnt seem to be any monitoring of this by the warden as advised on the website

Liked The views are stunning! The reception staff were great and accommodating on arrival.
Toilet blocks were well located and well looked after each day.
Food at the Fold cafe was excellent and had gluten free options.

Disliked New toilet block is great, but some cosmetic issues (wood lifting next to sinks).

Liked Well located
Amenities to hand
Pub opposite and cafe onsite good but opens late 9am ish.

Disliked The new toilet block in the men’s only had one toilet working, the urinals were blocked off, toilet one had no seat and toilet two the seat was wobbly. Needed a good clean! Seems to have been forgotten about.

Liked We come multiple times a year as we love the site and quiet location. Well maintained pitches as always

Disliked The show block/toilets need more frequent cleaning, it was the same last year when we went in the summer holidays. The new shower stalls were also smelly and mouldy, they need a deep clean.

Local attractions

Draw a straight line from this well-placed site and you're bound to come across something that tickles your fancy. Heading west? Stop off for strolls at Ladybower Reservoir (25 minutes' drive). South? Buxton's fancy shops and theatres are on hand, as are the gorgeous grounds of Chatsworth House (40 minutes). Up for some underground explores? This site is a breezy 15-minute drive from Castleton, a village deep in the White Peak where there are caves and caverns aplenty. Bobbing up and down along underground watercourses is on the cards at Speedwell Cavern, where subterranean boat trips are up for grabs. The nearby Blue John Cavern, meanwhile, also has much to marvel at, including Waterfall Cavern and its shimmering multi-coloured dome… When you emerge bleary-eyed back into broad daylight, you’ll probably be struck by the shadow of mighty Mam Tor (10 minutes from base). Hike up this handsome hill for a three-mile circular trail that'll stretch your legs and open your eyes to some exceptional vistas – on sunny days you'll also likely have the bonus sight of daredevil paragliders circling and swooping overhead.
