  • Peaceful back to basics site surrounded by the Derbyshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive from Bakewell; 20 minutes from Chatsworth House
  • Dog walking area; pubs serving food and real ales nearby
Touch down at Moor Farm Pop-up Campsite. A working farm with mown hayfield pitches, a livery yard and ducks, sheep and pigs, this site will whisk things nicely back to basics. Here, you’ll be well-situated to explore the Peak District, as it’s a five-minute drive to the edge of the national park. What to do first? Well, after you’ve dug through the welcome pack with locally-grown produce, perhaps you’ll want to take one of the scenic walks around the countryside directly from the site. A stop at a nearby farm shop or tearoom? Or, if you’re raring to go, you might want to dive straight into the Peak District. If so, Bakewell is 20 minutes’ drive away (get your hands on Bakewell pudding) and Chatsworth House is 20 minutes away too (how about a picnic in the grounds?) If you’re after some peace and quiet after an active day out, no need to worry as guests are asked to keep the noise down after 10pm. Handily, if you’ve brought along your dog too, there’s a dog walk on site where they may stretch their legs before settling down. Hunting down somewhere to eat? The scenic village of Ashover (five minutes’ drive) has three splendid pubs, all serving food and real ales. A little further away, Matlock (10 minutes’ drive) is another scenic spot to eat out. Handily, there's also a post office within five minutes' drive of the site.

Local attractions

The site is a 20-minute walk away from Ashover Rock, known locally as The Fabrick, a gritstone boulder and viewpoint… pack your binoculars and keep a good sense of direction to see the Humber Bridge in the distance. For more splendid views, this time towards Chesterfield, Stone Edge (20 minutes’ drive) is another place for a scenic walk. While you’re thinking of Chesterfield (10 minutes), the town itself is a nice spot to admire the crooked spire, grab a show at the Pomegranate Theatre and Cinema (15 minutes’ drive), peruse the town's antique shops or take a turn around Queen's Park (10 minutes’ drive, and perhaps stopping to watch a game of cricket). Whether you're new to the nearby Peak District or this is the umpteenth time you've hiked its many hills, there are always new routes to tackle. This landscape of dales, quarries and farmland has many sights too, including the caverns and caves in Castleton (45 minutes) and the Tudor Haddon Hall (20 minutes). That’s not forgetting Matlock Bath (15 minutes), which has attractions including the Heights of Abraham (20 minutes) park, Gulliver's Kingdom (20 minutes) theme park, the Peak District Mining Museum (15 minutes)… or the High Tor (25 minutes) on the opposite side of the river.
