  • Small, friendly Peak District site close to several walking trails
  • A 10-minute drive to Buxton and Bakewell and 20 minutes to Chatsworth
  • Dog-friendly pitches; several pubs within a five-minute drive
For peaceful times in the Peak District National Park take a look at Longfield Farm, a small and friendly site surrounded by Derbyshire countryside. A 10-minute drive from the spa town of Buxton and the medieval town of Bakewell, the pitches here are well situated for all sorts of alfresco activities. In the surrounding Peak District, guests can pull on their walking boots and get stuck into several good hikes along the likes of the Tissington Trail and the Monsal Trail, each within a 25-minute drive. Dogs should find plenty to sniff out on countryside walks too, and cyclists can make use of the area's many dirt paths. For other outdoor activities to get the heart racing, there's kayaking, windsurfing and fly fishing 30 minutes away at Carsington Water, including taster sessions for first-timers. After all this, put your feet up at one of the local country pubs. Handily, there are several within a five-minute drive, including one with a large playground to let the kids blow off some steam while you nurse a well-deserved pint. This is a simple site with basic facilities only, but you’ll have access to water points, three toilets and a shower. If you don’t fancy a bite to eat from one of the local pubs, you're welcome to light up your own barbecue instead. Both Buxton and Bakewell have a good selection of supermarkets, or you can head to one of several local farm shops for meat and extras to put on the grill.

What customers say

Great, quiet, rural spot for exploring the Peak District. Spacious pitches, good views, and farm animals! Staff are friendly. Facilities are basic and need updating, but still good value and many would return.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to write you review with plenty of feedback.
However it seems you was more unhappy about having to pay extra for the children that you hadn’t paid for.
We always welcome constructive criticism but when it comes to negative feedback due to being pulled up on extra people we would rather people not come to our site if they feel the need they don’t have to pay for what they have.
We run the site as a business to support our own family not for people to come for a free holiday.
If this comment upsets people we would rather they didn’t come.
We have a lot of lovely people on our site but unfortunately in life there is always them that think they don’t have to pay and feel the need to leave in unreasonable reviews based on nothing.

Liked What a beautiful little campsite! Well kept, large pitches, handy water taps and stunning views of the countryside. Animals to keep the kids entertained! Cows, chickens and goats... But most certainly the farm cats Zelda and Zac - the latter was incredibly friendly and snuggled up with us! We are very much cat people tho - he must have known! The facilities were basic as many have said, but always available when we needed and always clean and stocked! The owners popped around a couple of times during the visit and we're lovely to chat to, friendly and always gave a wave. We had a lovely time and will definitely come back!

Disliked Wasps ... but, that's nature, can't really count those! Haha!

Liked Location and views were nice. Pitch relatively level.

Being surrounded by the animals was a nice bonus.

Decent space between hard standing pitches. As long as you don’t get pitch 6.

Disliked Only staff contact was a visit with a clip board checking that we had paid. You get a text the day before. Felt very impersonal.

Charge of £10 per dog was outrageous. Would expect something more than an old compost dog poop bin for that price.

£10 per awning cost also felt very steep.

For the price of the campsite I have stayed at far better. There is a difference between basic/ off grid and lazy. This felt lazy.

The toilets and showers were poorly done and would be impossible to keep clean.

Were told in arrival text to chose between pitches 1-6. On arrival pitch 1 had reserved sign on it, no one turned up.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback.
A dog is £5.00 per night not £10.
Not quite sure what sort of bin you would like for your dog poop to go in.
It does state that the facilities are basic.
How much interaction with us do you expect we do are daily inspections when busy and check that everything is alright. Unfortunately we don’t have time to sit with everyone and have a cup of tea.
I don’t see how pitch one being reserved and no one turning up is relevant in your dislike comment.
We like to think the majority of people want to come away from there busy lives and relax we send a text message with direction on what pitch to choose from and our phone number if there’s any issues.
We check payments have been made as it is a business not a charity and unfortunately in some cases people don’t always pay for what they have . Maybe this is the case with yourselves and you haven’t liked being pulled up on it.

Lovely campsite, everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Route directions

The entrance to the site is on Flagg Lane (not The Jarnett). There is a signpost opposite the turning for Long Field Farm and Lane End Farm Trust. Look out for the fixed sheep pens at the top of the track, then follow the lane down to the site entrance on the right and look for your numbered pitch. If you type Lane End Farm Trust into your sat nav that should take you to the campsite.

Local attractions

If your walking boots are a camping essential, take them over to the Tissington Trail for a fine 13-mile route through the Derbyshire countryside. The route commences a 25-minute drive away in Ashbourne. For a shorter trail, the Monsal Trail is 15 minutes away – it's easier on the feet with a less demanding 8.5-mile route. For adrenaline seekers, Carsington Water is half an hour’s drive away. Here, you can hire kayaking kit or try out windsurfing if you're feeling extra ambitious. If watersports aren't your strong suit, their taster sessions will help to ease you in to the relevant techniques. For other activities that will raise your heart rate, there’s an outdoor pool in Hathersage 25 minutes away and several indoor pools within a 25-minute drive. Further afield, take a whirl on the rollercoasters at Alton Towers, a 40-minute drive away and with plenty to fill a full day. At Matlock Farm Park (30 minutes), a collection of cute animals should keep kids entertained; they can give horse riding a go too or gently feed the lambs if they're seeking some quieter time.
