  • Back to basics Peak District site with a view over Millers Dale
  • A mile to the Monsal Trail; 15 minutes' drive to Buxton and Bakewell
  • Farm shop and café on site; firepits available to hire
Bunk up in a barn at Beltonville Farm for a brill time in the White Peak part of the Peak District – this site’s just a mile from the Monsal Trail and therefore splendidly placed for a strolling, cycling or horse-riding holiday in Derbyshire. When you’re not tottering along this disused railway line transformed into a pretty path, soak up the views over Miller’s Dale; the park is in an elevated position looking out across this Site of Special Scientific Interest’s rock-studded landscape. Chillout sessions are of course boosted by having nosh to chomp on, so drop by the farm shop on site before dusk to pick up bits and bobs such as local veg. The site also has its own café, the Cow Shed Café, which is open every day from 9am. Rather a meander followed by a meal out? Map your way to one of several local pubs within a three-mile radius instead for supper. This is a back to basics site but it's well maintained and stretches to such luxuries as toilets and coin-operated showers for guests’ use (the showers require £1 coins, so please bring them with you). There's also a washing-up area and facilities for people with disabilities. Wood can be purchased at the park for the firepit.

What customers say

Awesome views, chilled vibe, big sites. Staff are legends, farm shop/cafe/bar's top notch, handy for walks. Facilities tidy but sometimes a wait or could do with a spruce. Evening fun's a hit, buzzy but peaceful. Worth a visit, heaps keen to come back.

Unpowered grass tent site (four person)

Liked The view over the valley made my trip enjoyable, the toilets and shower blocks are basic but kept very clean, the effort put in to keeping them clean is a credit to the campsite, the staff are all friendly and the Cafe and farm shop are really useful. It’s a long time since I camped so I’m glad this site was my reintroduction to camping.

Liked Farm shop was okay

Disliked We booked this from site no mention that there was a beer festival taking place . It was busy. 4 showers and 4 toilets for all camp site . I reckon there was 1000 + camping . Very roudy . During night we had a man off his face on drugs running round camonsite . In the night I went to toilets and a drunken man tried to force his way into the toilet . No staff around to report it to . If your looking for a decent camp site which is family friendly this is not the olace

Unpowered grass tent site (four person)

Liked The location was amazing and the views were fab, easy walk to Tideswell which has a good selection of pubs
The farm shop and bar area were great

Disliked The showers could have been more consistent, especially seen as they were coin operated. And although they had a toilet block the portaloos that were dotted around the site could have been campsite

Unpowered grass tent site (four person)

Liked - Beautiful views and surroundings
- Easy access to walks
- Toilets/showers were generally clean and stocked (e.g. loo roll and soap)
- Lots of space

Disliked - Some issues with the washing up sinks getting blocked (I don't think this is their fault as they have big signs up saying to not put any food waste down the sinks)
- There was a beer festival on in the evenings which meant that the cafe was shut early - would have been nice if there was an food option for those of us not wanting to go to the event but to get food/drink.

Unpowered grass tent site (six person)

Liked Arrived here with little expectations as im not the kind of customer to go camping and expect the world. Its camping.
But Beltonville exceeded mine and my friends expectations, live music, beer festival & strongman.
The site has a really nice welcoming atmosphere about it which helps as more often than not, ive found campsite to be quite clicky. Especially in the warmer months when people turn up year after year.
However, none of that here.
The shop stocked a nice assortment of handmade/locally sourced things. The shop staff/owner were very helpful. Checking into the site was easy with a smile and a laugh.
The breakfast was of a good quality as was the coffee (always a good sign)

The camp grounds themselves was very well maintained, showers/toilets were clean and always had blue paper towels and toilet roll. And greeted by (im assuming) 2 site cats on more than 2 occasions when using them! Also within easy access of plenty of trails with beautiful scenery from everyone angle!!

Local attractions

Squidged between Bakewell and Buxton (15 minutes’ drive from either), Beltonville has a nifty location near two of Derbyshire’s most popular towns. Make a foray to the former for River Wye wanders, passing by the medieval arched stone bridge, and the latter to see around some stunning architecture. Highlights on the heritage trail around Buxton Spa include the Georgian-era crescent, the Roman baths and the cupola-topped Devonshire Dome; for older buildings, the village of Castleton (25 minutes), lying in the lee of Mam Tor, has the Norman ruins of Peveril Castle to peer at. This spot’s also the gateway to the Blue John caves, the only places on the planet where the semi-precious Blue John stone can be found. Cast your eye over the largest intact piece ever mined on display at Treak Cliff Cavern (25 minutes), which also has some rather sizable stalactites and stalagmites for geologist types to gaze lovingly upon. Those aiming to give their walking boots a good workout here have plenty of choice: it's well located not just for the Monsal Trail and Millers Dale but also Chee Dale, Tideswell Dale and Winnets Pass.
