Unpowered grass tent site (six person)

Liked: Facilities were much better than expected (toilets/showers super clean and always available). Having the shop/bar/cafe on site was handy. The views from the higher campsite were lovely.

Disliked: Options at the bar/cafe were quite limited, and also not very inclusive to dietary requirements (but I wouldn't expect them to be and we brought our own food anyway)

Liked: The beautiful views, the cafe and being able to have a fire.

Disliked: The weather - but not much the farm could do about that!

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked: The Cow Shed was a good place to catch breakfast in the morning along with the good choice of cakes etc.

Disliked: I have to say the men's toilets were absolutely disgusting. From the first time I visited them they were already overflowing and by the end of the day you can imagine what they were like it reminded me of going to festivals back in the day. If they invested on the toilet blocks or at least cleaned them out throughout the day it may have been better though for the amount of people you can fit on site they need more than one block.

Liked: Unfortunately ruined by the second night. Large group of people blasting music and drink driving and revving engines at midnight. Bit worried specifically with young children. Glad to of got home!

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked: Sound basic camping facilities and a good spacious field. Family friendly but as a single traveller I felt just as welcome. I was pleasantly surprised at the calm, relaxed vibe on the site, rules respected and quiet after 10.30pm. The Cowshed cafe/bar/shop was excellent, again, spacious, and dog friendly. The staff were very helpful and polite.

Liked: Quiet beautiful location. Fabulous cafe on sight. Facilities were basic but functional. Showers nice and hot with plenty of room to undress and dress dry. Will go again next year.

Disliked: Rain on the last morning. Lol

Local attractions

Squidged between Bakewell and Buxton (15 minutes’ drive from either), Beltonville has a nifty location near two of Derbyshire’s most popular towns. Make a foray to the former for River Wye wanders, passing by the medieval arched stone bridge, and the latter to see around some stunning architecture. Highlights on the heritage trail around Buxton Spa include the Georgian-era crescent, the Roman baths and the cupola-topped Devonshire Dome; for older buildings, the village of Castleton (25 minutes), lying in the lee of Mam Tor, has the Norman ruins of Peveril Castle to peer at. This spot’s also the gateway to the Blue John caves, the only places on the planet where the semi-precious Blue John stone can be found. Cast your eye over the largest intact piece ever mined on display at Treak Cliff Cavern (25 minutes), which also has some rather sizable stalactites and stalagmites for geologist types to gaze lovingly upon. Those aiming to give their walking boots a good workout here have plenty of choice: it's well located not just for the Monsal Trail and Millers Dale but also Chee Dale, Tideswell Dale and Winnets Pass.
