  • Quiet Peak District caravan site with simple spacious pitches
  • A 10-minute drive from Bakewell and 20 minutes from Chatsworth Estate
  • Part of a working farm near Monyash and Tissington Trail
Take off on the Tissington Trail and the Limestone Way or sample some of the puddings in Bakewell – with easy access to these footpaths and being 10 minutes’ drive away from Bakewell, Whim Farm Caravan Site is all about making your holiday around this Derbyshire farm a treat. Just outside the village of Monyash, it’s a small site with basic but spacious pitches and plenty of fab outings nearby… As well as those trails, you'll also be able to stretch your legs some more at Chatsworth Estate (20 minutes) or Lathkill Dale (easily accessed from here), or sign up for the thrills of Alton Towers (half an hour). It’s only a short drive to other popular spots including the Monsal Trail and Dovedale. It’s a fairly simple setup on site with drinking water, an Elsan point and recycling bins provided but no showers or toilets. The rewards for self-contained visitors are good ones though: there are stunning views out over the Peak District National Park all around, and plenty of places nearby to get out for good walks. Access is easy too, with a nice wide entrance straight off the B5055 allowing plenty of manoeuvring space for tourers. Two pubs are within walking distance of the farm too (one in the village and one on the Tissington Trail), and there’s a café in the village too. Top reward for all walkers, however, has to be a treat from the farm next door, which makes its own ice cream from its herd of dairy cows and sells it in the café and shop.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Couldn’t actually get onto the site as ground far too soft and boggy for Motorhome. Couldn’t even get onto the field to turn round so ended up backing out onto the road. Left without stopping.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: We enjoyed a great 3 night break with a friendly host, at this lovely quiet basic site in a great location. We had a fabulous unobstructed view of the surrounding countryside and only a 15 minute walk to Monyash, a lovely village with great pub and cafe. We were only a few minutes cycle from the Tissington cycle trail. Great place for walking and cycling

Disliked: We didn’t dislike anything and will definitely be back.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Friendly owners, site lovely, lovely views and convenient for Bakewell and Buxton.

Disliked: Ground bit soft was worried we might not get of. But we've had plenty of rain so perhaps when ground is dry be brilliant

Local attractions

To take in the Tissington Trail landscapes on two wheels, bicycle hire is 20 minutes’ drive away from the site. Of course, you could walk this 13-mile trail too. Either way, there are plenty of views of the Derbyshire Dales to go around. On your way around Dovedale (25 minutes’ drive), you’ll get to cross stepping stones and enjoy valley views instead. This beauty spot joins a club of local vistas: Chatsworth Estate (20 minutes) is another big one, with the stately home itself and then the gardens and petting farm. To elevate your heart rate some more, Go Ape Buxton (15 minutes) will put your balance to the test with treetop obstacle courses and zipwires to put your feet back on firm ground. While you’re over this way, you might also like to stop by at Poole’s Cavern & Buxton Country Park (15 minutes), where there’s a limestone cavern, as well as woodland trails up above. Fancy a walk around a medieval park or a tour of parts of a Tudor mansion? This historic type of stroll is available at Haddon Hall (20 minutes).
