Peak district surroundings

  • Well-equipped Derbyshire site with easy access from the A517
  • A 10-minute drive to Ashbourne and the edge of the Peak District
  • Dog-friendly site a mile from Hulland Ward's village pub and farm shop
Parking up for the Peak District to flit between limestone valleys, pretty villages and green peaks? Take your kit to Ashbourne Touring and Camping Park, a well-equipped site in a handy spot just off the A517, a mile from the village of Hulland Ward. Easy access from the main road means it’s nice and straightforward to get set up at this Derbyshire site – and that location also means you’ll be handily close to the village’s pub and farm shop (a useful source of supplies for your barbecue back at base). Bus services from the stop just outside can take you to Ashbourne's cobbled streets and weekly open-air market – or, alternatively, drive yourself over there in about 10 minutes. In fact, everything here has been designed to make life nice and easy for guests, with well-kept, ample toilet and shower facilities, a chemical disposal area, a washing-up area and a launderette provided. And if you can't bear the thought of leaving a faithful furry companion behind, good news – dogs are welcome to join you on site as long as they're well-behaved. The wifi service provided is also likely to come in handy, given that you'll probably want to plan lots of days out around the area. The edge of the Peak District National Park is about 10 minutes' drive away, as is the start of the traffic-free Tissington Trail, so you'll be in a good position for getting out to explore the lovely landscapes. And there are plenty of other attractions around too, including Alton Towers and the grand Chatsworth Estate.

What customers say

A tidy, peaceful spot with good space and staff. Toilets and showers get a tick. Handy for attractions and walks. Wi-Fi can be spotty, and traffic/camper noise happens. A few found pitches or loos iffy when busy.

Liked Karenleft our sit number etc on notice board with all details needed for our late arrival. When we did meet up a very nice lady he is too! Our pitch was of a large level area. With plenty of room.nice area for us to visit heights of abraham, and distance to the stepping stones. DO NOT RELY ON THE BUS,WE WAITED FOR 45 MINUTES,SO WE ENDED UP DRIVING TO ASBOURNE IN THE MOHO,WHICH ACTUALLY ONLY TOOK US ABOUT 20min.
The showers were of addiquite size and hot.. very clean throughout the block.
Kids are back to school, and site was partly empty and very peaceful.
Good wifi whist we were here for 3 nights. Go into the information kiosk just in the entrance, every thing you need to know!!

Liked We had a lovely stay. The site has great services clean showers and toilets. Great staff very friendly and helpful. I was able to forage the sloes and apples to make jam…an added bonus!
The surrounding area is beautiful. Ashbourne, Carsington waters, plenty of beautiful pubs and great walks a few minutes drive away. We had a beautiful Sunday lunch at the Nags Head just up the road in the car or a walk over the fields.
The site has great dog walk and kids play area.
We couldn’t travel back with our caravan on our leaving day due to weather warnings gusts of winds over 60 miles. They were kind enough to allow us to collect our caravan the next day. Which helped us out so much (thanks again).
We will definitely be returning especially as I owe the staff some jam!
We didn’t use WiFi so not sure if signal was okay.

Local attractions

Bridging the gap between Ashbourne and Parsley Hay, the Tissington Trail (10 minutes’ drive) beckons with peaceful, traffic-free pedals and a detour to the tea rooms in gorgeous Tissington. Those who are looking to spend the majority of their time exploring on foot can take on the trail without a bicycle or head onwards towards the Dovedale stepping stones (20 minutes), Harboro Rocks (15 minutes) or stunning Thor’s Cave (half an hour). Putting aside a morning to stroll around Chatsworth estate (35 minutes) is also a fine decision, given that this stately home is a proper Peak District poster child. You may have also heard of Carsington Water (10 minutes), not quite in the national park but just outside, for scenic hours of watersports or keeping watch for birds like kingfishers and buzzards. Touring with the kids? They will surely appreciate a trip to Alton Towers (25 minutes) or the Peak Wildlife Park (25 minutes). Take 'em on a vintage tram ride at Crich Tramway Village (25 minutes) while you're at it, ending at the period sweet shop or pub.
