Orchard View Farm: Caravan pitch with a view of the Chiltern Hills

General

  • Well-equipped site on a working farm overlooking the Chiltern Hills
  • A 15-minute drive from Thame and 40 minutes from Oxford
  • Café-restaurant, butchery and farm shop with a deli counter

Wake up to see the sun rising over the Chiltern Hills while listening to the gentle murmur of sheep, pigs and deer during a stay at Orchard View Farm, a scenic Buckinghamshire spot within 15 minutes’ drive of Aylesbury, Thame and Princes Risborough.

Not that guests will ever need to venture to the town for food if they don't fancy moving – eats and drinks are sorted courtesy of the site’s fantastically stocked farm shop and deli or by dining at the Trough Garden Kitchen. This café and restaurant serves up a range of meals, including those made from ingredients sourced at the site’s award-winning butchery and cooked in woodburning ovens.

Looking after nature is just as important to the owners of this small farm as serving up tasty grub – they’ve worked hard to create a serene and scenic environment in the grounds by planting wildflower meadows, more than 100 trees and over 350 metres of mixed native hedging.

Orchard View Farm is five minutes’ drive from the western edges of the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so it's safe to suggest that the local area is also rather pretty for walks. Crime fiction fan? Or just fond of cute country cottages? Head off on a self-guided Midsomer Murders-themed tour of nearby villages (you can download a trail map from the internet).

Oxford is 40 minutes’ drive from the site and central London takes an hour and 20 minutes to reach.

This campsite is in a lovely remote location and has fantastic showers and loo's etc. The farm shop, cafe, bar, and food are excellent and the best I've had on pretty much any campsite. We ate delicious fresh pizza and kebabs on different nights, which we had pre-arranged slots for collection. This worked perfectly.

Staff super helpful, if a little too busy.

    Disliked:

For us the pitches, although perfect, were a little too close to other groups, but it didn't cause us any issues really.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the trouble to leave your review........space is soemthing that we will be addressing at the end of this season. Thanks Steve, Camping Manager.

It was a lovely well kept site, nice and flat with good clean amenities even for disabled people.
Owners have good plans for the area. It was nice that the Owner and the manager stopped to have a chat to see if there was any problems.
The food was very nice and my thanks to the chef for getting me some green backed bacon as I don't like smoked bacon for breakfast. There full English sets you up for the day.
Saturday evening chicken for two was very tasty and good portion size.
Saturday was a very pleasant as a very noisy group of families went out for the day.

    Disliked:

We found its best to prebook for the pizza night (Friday) when booking as we found out the hard way but the shop had a good assortment of cold food like quiche etc. Don't leave ordering the chicken for Saturday night to late, best prebook again before or on arrival.
Main reason for 3 out of 5 was that half the campsite was one large party with lots of children. We know children play that's fine but the shear volume of screaming, shouting and running around wasn't always the children their parents sometimes joined in, it made our stay not the best by far. It was a shame as it was a good site.
Perhaps if the owner has the idea of expanding, maybe put in a quiet camping area for people who don't want all the screaming etc.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the trouble to leave a review. I know we discussed the concerns you had on site, regarding the children and there is not a lot more to add. We are a family site and welcome children of all ages, but we also welcome responsible parents, relatives or guardians who are prepared to monitor the childrens behaviour. The idea of a quiet area is something that we will consider for next season. Finally I notice that you appear to have scored the availability of wiri.....we dot have any wifi nor do we advertise it as being available....so I'm not sure what happened there. Steve

The facilities were clean with plenty of hot water.
Really liked that no cars were allowed next to the pitch .
Thame is just 10 minutes away and a lovely small town with plenty of shops.

The staff were all so friendly, couldn’t do enough for us and were easy to find to answer questions. The pitches were level and the view and setting was just lovely. The food was so so good, especially the pizzas! The rustic vibe was just perfect and we felt totally relaxed. The children had a great time running around and exploring, and we didn’t leave the site all weekend! We’ll be back 👍🏻

A lovey well run camp site.
We camped here for Father’s Day and really enjoyed the experience .
The farm shop is excellent so you don’t have to worry about bringing any food or drink with you.
They also have a restaurant so you can get a cooked breakfast or in the evenings Pizza or Rotisserie Chicken.
The camping side of things was run by Steve who is super helpful and good fun.
There are some hay bails the kids loved playing on and if you go for the premium camping pitches you get a ton of room to play.

    Disliked:

Only a couple of minor points. There are hounds near by who get excited all at the same time and can cause a racket for 10-15 mins so if you are a super light sleeper it may bother you but to be honest it didn’t affect us.
Other thing was that the toilet floors could do with a more regular mop as it was muddy and it got quite slippy. These are minor points that shouldn’t undermine what was a fab stay.

From the manager...

Thanks for your kind comments.......the toilet floors are wiped over as often as we can do it.....unfortunately your visit was during a wet period and as fast as the floors were cleaned they became muddy again, Steve

Great tranquil and relaxing camping experience in the countryside.
Flat well kept grass area for tent pitches.
Wheelbarrows available to take bags from car to tent area.
Farm shop full to the brim of goodies, the cider was one of my favourite purchases.
Toilets and showers had a high standard of cleanliness maintained daily. Hand soap and sanitiser provided.
Washing up area with hot water was a bonus.
Steve and James very welcoming and checked in with us when walking round the camp site.
Nice roads to cycle on and a few pubs not too far away. Would not hesitate to recommend to friends.

    Disliked:

Mixed messages at times, I was told I couldn’t arrive at 8pm on the phone then corrected upon arrival the next morning that I could have come so missed out on one night that I’d paid for, but at least I know for next time.
I wanted to book an extra night as I’d missed out on the first one, told in the shop they didn’t know how, then corrected by James that I could do it in the shop.
Can’t fault Steve and James, and overall staff very helpful, just one that let it down for me as he seemed not happy to help and told me to do my booking online.
Slight smell of sewerage where we were pitched.

From the manager...

So glad that overall you enjoyed your stay........but really sorry about the mixed message regarding the arrival time. We ask that people arrive before 5.00 pm but understand that on a Friday it is not always possible. We try to be understanding and flexible on arrival times and I apologise that we let you down this time. when you come again email me personally. Sorry about the sewerage smell.....on the to do list. Browse the Bucks County Museum’s local history and culture exhibits, making sure to stop by the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery for displays championing the characters from the novelist’s books.

Just outside the town, wander around Waddesdon Manor, a French-inspired chateau with gorgeous gardens, or turn back the clock to the 1940s at Bletchley Park (40 minutes), the country house where the Allies broke the enigma code during the Second World War.

If city trips are what you fancy, set off for the compelling colleges of Oxford (35 minutes) or the spectacular sights of Central London (an hour and 20 minutes).
