Liked: Set in a beautiful location with lovely walks around the lake. Close to Legoland and Windsor Castle.Clean , quite site. Lovely clean toilet and showers with heating on. Loved watching the squirrels.

Liked: A lovely quiet site, with great clean facilities. Was initially busy on arrival, but visitors tapered off as the week went in. Large pitch, fully serviced. Staff super friendly and helpful. Always felt very safe there as a solo female traveller.

Disliked: Not being able to dispose of anything but liquid in the chemical toilet disposal is tricky , I’d already put tissue in the unit.

Liked: This was an amazing site. The staff went out their way to provide good service. Our pitch was huge and provided some very needed shade. The toilets and showers are clean. The ladies has recently been decorated. The best hair dryer I have ever seen on a campsite.

2 bedroom cabin

Liked: Clean, tidy and quiet location. Lovely people running the place who were very helpful. We stayed in a cabin and it suited our needs well. They do offer WiFi but it had a limit (fair enough) so we just used our own data signal with no issues. The location is great. The country park adds more to do without having to travel. Lovely pub a few minutes drive away.

Disliked: Disliked is a bit too strong of a word here. A few things could have gone better. There was a mix up with the type of cabin we booked when we arrived but this was handled with no trouble. I believe the owners have just taken over so there are bound to be little blips along the way. We knew we needed to bring towels. Linens were provided. However we were surprised to find that there was no welcome pack with dishwashing supplies. I’ve never stayed in self catering accommodation where this wasn’t provided. When we asked they said they still need to update the website. So best to check ahead of time on what you need to bring.

3 bedroom cabin

Liked: The cabin we had was nice with ducks and swans right outside our door.

Disliked: We booked months in advance to be in a cabin next to a campervan hook up site as we had other family staying there too. They confirmed this at the time but we arrived to be at opposite ends of site. Also we booked a 3 bed cabin and they handed keys over for a 2 bed, which we only realised after we had gone into it. Went back up to reception to get what we’d booked but they said none were now available. It then took them over a week to issue a refund for the price difference and this only happened after 4 telephone calls from me and 3 emails. Very poor service and to be honest, this was the general feeling we got from many others who were also staying there.

Fully-serviced concrete slab caravan site (premium)

Liked: This was our first touring caravan holiday 300 miles from home. Everything ready for us when we arrived. Gate Fob didnt work but they changed it when i asked. We Stayed in a fully serviced pitch. Easy to reverse onto. Good size pitch. Good water pressure. No problems with EHU. Waste drain at rear of pitch. Good tv antenna reception. Good enough 4g signal with 3 and vodafone to stream tv apps. The caravan park was a nice quiete place to be with friendly holiday makers. The country park just outside has a fantastic play park, lake, cafe and paddling pool. Our 3 year old loved it and was sad to leave. We could have easily stayed longer than the 3 nights we booked. We made good memories here with it been our first trip out in the caravan.

Disliked: Wasnt enough for us to complain about as we bought a caravan with full facilities but Mens shower was ok although Womens shower block had no hot water so they were advised to use the family room which had no working light so was pitch black, so my partner just used our caravan shower for our stay. No toilet paper in mens toilet block for the weekend. This didn't catch us out as we came with our own supplies so wasnt a massive issue. This is maybe a minor thing in a otherwise lovely park as i expect they are just waiting for the hot water issue to be fixed.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review us. We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay and yes we have had the boiler replaced for the ladies shower block, so it is all in working order. The family room light has also been replaced as the total fitting had been broken which was so unfortunate. We are looking at the weekend rota for cleaning the shower blocks to prevent further shortage of supplies too. We hope to welcome you again in the future and thank you for booking with us.

Lovely setting but in need of some care and refurbishment.

Fully-serviced concrete slab caravan site (premium)

Liked: Good sized level pitches in a nice setting. The location in California country park with the lake and beautiful walks is stunning. Lovely café nearby and the village of Finchampstead with all its amenities within walking distance.

Disliked: The shower block is in serious need of refurbishment and is not really big enough for the size of the site. Only three toilet cubicles in the ladies and two in the mens. The site is being used as a base by a large number of workmen who are working nearby on a large building site and there are a lot of units that seem to have been there a long time with a lot of clutter outside of them. This all just adds to the general feel of neglect.

Local attractions

There’s plenty of scope for fresh air in California Country Park (right next to the site), but if you fancy stretching your legs a little more, you’ve got plenty of choice: the South Downs National Park, New Forest and the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are all within an hour’s drive for scenic walks and bike rides. Golfers can pick from three courses within a 15-minute drive. On fine days, take the kids to meet the friendly animals at Lockey Farm, 10 minutes away. For less clement days, the Museum of Berkshire Aviation, Skiplex Indoor Ski Slopes, Coral Reef waterpark and Gravity Force trampoline park are all about a 20-minute drive away. For a bit of culture and history, it will take half an hour or so to drive to Windsor Castle, or around an hour to Oxford for wanders around the university’s colleges and punting along the river.
