Electric optional grass campervan pitch
Liked There are some genuinely lovely things about Hunstanton Glamping and Camping, and it’s a real shame that the condition of the site lets what could be a fantastic campsite down so badly.
What we liked
The location is excellent. You’re very close to the beach and within easy reach of Hunstanton, while everyday amenities such as Tesco and the new Lidl are also conveniently nearby.
For us, one of the biggest positives was the access to the surrounding countryside and nature reserve. There are plenty of footpaths straight from the area and lots of wildlife. During our stay we saw hares and deer, and the relatively open surroundings also give you a fantastic view of the night sky. If you enjoy walking, wildlife and being outdoors, the setting itself is beautiful
Disliked Yes — with all of that, I’d make the review quite strong, but keep it factual so it carries more weight and doesn’t just read as an angry rant.
Unfortunately, our experience at Hunstanton Glamping and Camping was extremely disappointing.
The site describes itself as “rustic”, but there is a big difference between rustic and neglected. There is old equipment, rubbish, bags and general clutter left around the site, and in places it honestly feels more like a junk yard than a campsite. There are weeds and nettles growing everywhere and very little evidence of any regular maintenance or attention to detail.
The biggest issue, however, is the cleanliness of the facilities. The showers were absolutely disgusting — old, dirty, falling apart and seemingly not cleaned regularly. The toilets were even worse. We found them filthy, with faeces and urine left around the toilets and seats. Of the three women’s toilets, only two were working during our stay, and only one sink appeared to be working properly. Even then, the water pressure was barely adequate.
The washing-up facilities weren’t much better. There was no hot water for washing dishes, the sinks themselves were filthy, and the whole area looked like it desperately needed a proper deep clean and refurbishment.
Waste management also appears to be a serious problem. Bins were full to the brim, rubbish bags were left around the site, and we even found bags of dog mess left on camping pitches that hadn’t been collected. During our stay we also saw rats around the site and dead moles.
We’re perfectly happy with basic, rustic camping and don’t expect luxury facilities. But basic does not have to mean dirty, poorly maintained or unhygienic.
In our opinion, this site needs significant investment and a complete overhaul. The facilities need refurbishing, the grounds need properly clearing and maintaining, and there needs to be a much more robust cleaning and waste-management regime.
It’s a real shame because a genuinely rustic campsite can be a lovely experience, but based on what we experienced, we couldn’t recommend staying here in its current condition.
