Bembridge, Isle Of Wight, England
Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Clean - good washing facilities - very helpful managers Kevin and Alison. Free ice block freezing for cool boxes which is much appreciated. Also very flat which is good for bigger tents.
Also good to have access to swimming pool at the caravan park, and a fabulous beach (which is huge, sandy, great for swimming and not accessible other than via a steep footpath which means it’s always empty…)
Disliked Quite regimented, lots of rules eg camping within marked lines, kids can’t blow bubbles, no fires - not a wild camping atmosphere
Swimming pool is hot as a bath and it’s like a zoo in hot weather, it’s basically a giant kids play pool. For proper swimming you need the sea.
The phone signal is non existent and the WiFi - even when theoretically available - is horrendous - don’t come here relying on any connectivity whatsoever

Ryde, Isle Of Wight, England
Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch
Liked This is a fabulous little campsite. We needed somewhere close to family in Bembridge and St Helen’s and it was perfect. Very quiet, loads of room, compost loos and shower spotlessly clean. Owners on site and super lovely and helpful, fire pits and firewood provided which is great. We will be back!

Fotheringhay, Northamptonshire, England
Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked Lovely open site, riverside views across to the ruins of Fotheringhay castle which is fascinating (location of mary queen of Scots beheading….) Loads of space, no fixed pitches; we like the “turn up and camp where you like”ethos. Super friendly and helpful owner. Village church is also interesting and worth a look.
Disliked Not much: mainly all good . But it’s very exposed and weather dependent and we had bad luck; so this isn’t somewhere to
Come when weather is bad: I imagine in sunny weather it would be glorious. There are no rubbish bins on site so bring bags and be prepared to drive away with your rubbish till you find a bin. Also there was a bit of dog waste that people hadn’t cleared up.
