A fantasic example of how to run a campsite!

Sept 2026

Liked Location was fantastic. Campsite layout was brilliant. Plenty of space for everyone. A massive barn houses the toilets, showers and kitchen area. Plenty of hot water, no doubt supplied by the 80 or so solar panels on the roof. Fire pits are allowed. No road noise from traffic. Very accommodating hosts. They really have tried very hard to make this work and is a great example of how to run a campsite. Clean and tidy.

Disliked Nothing really. Maybe add some shelves or something in the shower pods, just so that we can get our clobber off the floor. During hot summers....not a problem but on rainy days (which might not be 2026) ...more so.

A fantastic location.Very accommodating owners.A truly memorable stay.

Aug 2025

Liked To see Fountains Abbey (clue in the campsite name!), you are not going to get much better location than this! Just fantastic. You can see the Abbey from the campsite. I am thankful to the owners to permit their field to be used as a campsite, to allow campers, like us, to experience the wonderful countryside, which they have on their doorstep and wake upto every day. They could just as easily had cows grazing on the land instead. Also I must mention the owners, their attitude and personalities in general. Very commendable. 2025 might be their first year to experiment with a different income for the field and might help to explain why they appeared to be incredibly accommodating, pleasant. Never-the-less, nothing should be taken away from them. I thought their attitude was a fantastic example on how to promote a campsite to the wider audience. A lot of people can learn from this. Really good people! I felt they try really hard to make your stay a pleasurable one and it shows in both effort and results. There are huge fire pits for campers to hire along with wood (and marshmallows on sticks if you want them) at a reasonable price. Many campsites don’t even allow this and so it all adds to a memorable experience. The general area is fantastic. There are public foot paths in all directions. The Abbey is not cheap if you want to see that but is free to National trust members. Park runs operate on Sat mornings and is very popular with 350+ attending on our weekend in August.

Disliked Friday and Saturday nights are obviously the busiest days and I think I counted a few dozen campervans/tents on our long 3 day weekend stay. The toilet block has just 2 toilets each for girls and boys and understandably its going to be quite easily overwhelmed at times. You have to factor that in if you don’t want to wait in the queue. The owners do clean these at numerous points throughout the day because not all campers leave the place as they find it. It is advertised as cold water supply only and when using the shower, the terms "Brace yourself" might come to mind but it all adds to the experience! Most campers are respectful to their surroundings but why is it you always get some who think its fine to drop litter for other people to go around and pickup?!

3 of us stayed at this…

Jul 2022

Liked 3 of us stayed at this campsite during July 2022. One tent 2 cars. If anyone would like to know how to run a caravan/tent site then look no further than this place. Their business model is excellent and is a perfect example of how to operate a site. Well signposted. Excellent wash house. Power points, Central recycling point. Fire pits, mini shop, easy to understand website. Gracious staff. Excellent Wifi. Saturday night is obviously going to be the busiest week night and I looked around and thought this site is full at 6 meter spacings and yet we have harmony throughout. Everyone was doing their own thing. It just worked. Well done to the owners.

Disliked Weather could have been better especially after all that good weather we've had recently. Never mind.

From the manager: Thank you for this fabulous review, Andrew. We really appreciate it. Each of us put a lot of hard work and - most importantly - love into what we do here. We always listen to feedback and welcome new ideas. We are a mother-daughter duo with an amazing team of staff - special mention to Dave and Rosie here - without our fab team, this wouldn't be possible. We hope to see you again!
