6-amp electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked You could choose your own pitches and most were really big pitches! The hedge dividing the pitches was tall enough to ensure privacy. The location to the lake was fabulous but unfortunately due to the blue/green algae we could not use it. The pool was lovely, but possibly busier than it would normally be due to the lake being closed. The facilities were dated but clean. The welcome was very friendly and the morning delivery of croissants and bread was delicious.
Disliked Considering the size of the site there were minimal toilets (and you need your own toilet paper and hand soap) - so choose your time wisely!
Signage on the campsite regarding the blue green algae would have been helpful as we had to rely on google to find this out.

Non-electric grass pitch
Liked Our pitch was an isolated one and so we loved this - quiet reading time and peaceful days for us! The snack bar was lovely - food was fresh and used local ingredients. The bar was well stocked with sufficient variety to cater. The river on the site was lovely and, due to the pace of it no risk of the blue green algae - you can see how in higher water levels it would be a lovely place to play in. The owners had lots of things happening on the site - an organised walk, night markets, local artisans visiting and entertainment including live bands (if that’s your thing).
The owners are very friendly and helpful.
Disliked The campsite is a very popular campsite and some of the pitches would not have been as relaxing as ours was!

Electric optional grass and gravel pitch
Liked The starry, starry night…..wow - we lay watching the milky way and some of the best star viewing we have been able to do - a natural dark sky!
The new owners were so welcoming and friendly. Keen to get feedback and have plans to invest on the site without fundamentally changing the charm of the site.
Disliked nothing

Sablé-sur-Sarthe, Sarthe, France
Electric optional grass pitch
Liked Lovely sized pitches - really private and you could choose the one that suited you. Friendly, helpful staff - willing to give advice as needed (helping me buy stamps in the local post office was beyond the call of duty!!). Lovely bread/croissants you could order daily. Facilities were excellent - lots of them and clean throughout our stay. location to Sable was perfect - you could walk into town (or cycle) for local shops or a simple drive to the bigger shops on the outskirts. The tourist information office in town was also very helpful.
Disliked Whilst the river was low due to the drought and we were unable to access due to the blue/green algae - we feel it would have been a struggle to put the paddle boards in the river as the access points weren't clear with only one obvious spot for boats. Not sure if this is something the campsite can improve but one to be aware of.

Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Facilities were very clean (although the toilet was a little squashed!) and the water lovely and hot. We really liked the woodland area just off the campsite for a quick dog walk. The owner was really cheery and helpful (suggested the wood which was an 10 minute drive for a longer dog walk) and clearly took pride in the campsite.
As we were Travelling to France the location of this campsite for the tunnel was the absolute draw and why we would use again.
Disliked There wasn’t an option to select your own pitch - we prefer to be away from other campers when possible.

Electric grass tent pitch
Liked Location, Location, Location. Visiting family near Arundel this was the ideal site. The pitch was great for us, we like shade, and it was flat. The site went quiet at the appropriate times and indeed everyone seemed to follow the correct etiquette.
Showers were good and, after porta-loos the toilets were also a blessing.
Disliked The site facilities are dated with no working laundrette for campers to use (despite advertised) and no working electric sockets to plug electrical items in -crucial for backpackers). I’m not sure how often they were cleaned!
There was a distinct lack of appropriate bins- non in the female toilets, non near the washing up area for when you clean out the sink and there was only one main bin for every bodies rubbish which was overflowing.
The sinks all go down the drain leading into the toilet area and it was obvious this is wear the leftover scrambled eggs etc ended up and, in the two days we were there, this wasn’t cleaned.
It’s quite an expensive site for these problems to be there.
The facilities looked clean - but I think this was due to the people using the site.

Non-electric grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked The space is fantastic and it is so peaceful watching the red kites flying around or the aircraft on their lessons. As the field is so big you can be as sociable as you want. Links to the walks are great - literally on your doorstep!
Cold water for dishes and showers (if it’s hot enough that’s lovely)
Disliked We arrived the day before the porta-loos were being emptied…whilst they were clean you could definitely tell they needed emptying!!
They were emptied whilst we were there and additional loos put in - if we’d arrived on that day we’d have given the site a 10

From the manager: Thanks Julie, annoyingly the portaloos should have been delivered weeks before but there was a problem at the supplier's end outside of our control. Glad you enjoyed your stay though, we love the kites too :)

Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Love the wild camping feel of the site.
Large pitches with own fire pit
Honesty shop with fabulous wood
General feeling there - you know the world is around but you get to focus on the main ment.
It’s similar to wild camping - but you’ve got a loo! If you’ve ever wanted to try wild camping but not sure this is a perfect campsite to trial it on.
Disliked Having to leave!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked Camp pitch next to beach
Disliked Everything else - this is possibly one of the worst campsites I have ever stayed at. The bins were overflowing at every stage of the 24 hours we were there.
The toilets were not properly cleaned at any stage - bear in mind there are only 8 cubicles for a huge site! At one point I followed the “cleaner” in to discover all they had done was thrown a mop at the floor - not even swept up and no cleaning of the toilets!
The water taps leaked throughout making the collecting of drinking water a very wet and messy affair (irrespective of which tap point you went to.
The washing up area was three sinks - it’s a huge campsite…and these were not very hygienic.
We popped to the shop to discover there was virtually nothing of any use.
I had stayed here last year (on the way through) and it was similar but I put that down to us coming out of lockdown….It just seems to be a tired campsite with staff who do not do their job properly.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked Very friendly welcome - Sue and Andy couldn’t have done more. The pitches had bushes to protect from any wind, the views from the site are awesome and there is a lovely walk to the Martello Tower. The Shed is fabulous especially when in a tent in poor weather - great place to sit. Great site to base at for exploring all of Hoy, Flotta and Graemsay. Absolutely loved the stay and will be back next year.
Had a meal that they provided - totally recommend!
