- Quiet, family-oriented park 10 minutes' drive from Carrollton
- 20 minutes' drive from boating and fishing at Atwood Lake
- Swimming pool, fishing pond, playgrounds and games room
Off to the Midwest? Have an A-1 time at A-1 Twin Valley Campground, a family-oriented park peacefully placed in a rural setting 10 minutes' drive from the Ohio town of Carrollton.
Water fans, angling aficionados and nature spotters are well sorted here too, as A-1 has its own pond for some great fishing, as well as a network of spring-fed streams to spy small fish and crayfish. Around the region, it's about 20 minutes' drive to the boating, swimming and fishing (and winery tours and waterside walks) of Atwood Lake, and about 40 to the nearest meander of the 981-mile Ohio River, the biggest tributary of the Mississippi.
Back at base, other leisure facilities include an open-air pool, a games room and two playgrounds; there’s also plenty of space to run about and play games of football or frisbee. You don't have to wander far for essentials either: the park also has its own store selling groceries, ice and firewood for evenings spent around the firepits scattered around the grounds.

Local attractions
Drive six and a half miles to Carrollton for its craft markets, shops and the Daniel McCook House, telling the tale of the 'Fighting McCooks' who became well known in the American Civil War. Also in town is the Ashton House Museum and its exhibits on local life, culture and sports teams including Ohio State University; make time at this last for a wander in the peaceful gardens too.
You'll need a couple of days at least for Atwood Lake – one for boating, swimming, fishing and lazing on the beach, and one for tours and tastings at Al-Bi Winery on the lake's shore. Atwood has 28 miles of shoreline to hike along, and a boat launch ramp if you're here in Ohio with your own vessel (if not, rent boats at the east and west sides of the marina).
Vehicle fans have two top destinations within day trip distance: the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum (45 minutes' drive), where food was served from 1942 to 1945 to over 1.3 million World War II soldiers, and the Canton Classic Car Museum (50 minutes) with its 45 gleaming vintage vehicles. If you're more of a sporty sort, the Pro Football Hall of Fame is also at Canton.
Further afield, cross into Pennsylvania for a day at Pittsburgh an hour and a half to the east, while the Lake Erie city of Cleveland is just under two hours' drive to the north.
