  • Quiet site 10 minutes’ walk from Organyà, in the Catalonian Pyrenees
  • Museu de la Moto 25 minutes’ drive; Presa de Rialb 40 minutes
  • Restaurant and barbecue area; swimming pool and massages; dogs welcome
Anyone up for an adventure holiday with a gastronomic twist? If a scramble up the Pyrenees followed by a gourmet meal is what floats your boat, make a beeline for Camping Organyà Park, less than a kilometre from the Catalonian town of Organyà (10 minutes’ walk), in north-eastern Spain. The restaurant is one of the highlights of this peaceful site – dishes that blend modernity and tradition feature ingredients sourced from local producers and neighbouring farms. If you’re determined to cook your own meals, there’s a barbecue area and plenty of picnic tables around. And those picnic tables come with pretty spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. Take a good look at those mountains: you might well be attempting their ascent during your stay here, perhaps on a via ferrata climbing route – the Roca de Narieda (five minutes’ drive) is especially popular. Another trail worth exploring is the Camí de Santa Fe (15 minutes), leading up a wooded mountain to the tiny chapel of Santa Fe d’Organyà. After all that, you might want to reward yourself with some down time: will you head to the outdoor pool (complete with a paddling area for toddlers) or to the nearby river El Segre for a spot of angling? If your body aches after your climbing efforts, you can book yourself in for a massage, and there are also padel courts, a playground and an area where the family dog can have a run around.

Local attractions

Petrolheads might enjoy a visit to the Museu de la Moto de Bassella (25 minutes’ drive), which displays a collection of motorcycles through the ages, including a 1902 Clement, an Indian Four from the 1930s and modern Italian and Japanese brands. There’s also a workshop where you can watch repairs being carried out. From the motorcycle museum, head west to the Presa de Rialb reservoir (40 minutes), along whose ragged shores are atmospheric ruins (such as those of the Ermita de Sant Miquel de Castellnou), simple rural churches (like the 12th-century Església de Sant Miquel de Vilaplana) and ancient tombs (at the Àrea del Dolmen de Sòls de Riu), not to mention spectacular viewpoints. The Serra de Turp i Móra Comdal-Valldan (40 minutes) is a protected reserve with limestone mountains, clear-water streams and a network of underground caves. Keep your eyes peeled for birds of prey, since several make their home here – from peregrine falcons, to bearded vultures – plus chamois and bats.
