- Lots of local hiking trails, including a half-hour waterfall walk
- Restaurant on site with home-grown veg and wood-fired bread oven
Days packed with fresh-air antics followed by evenings revolving around fab homemade food and local wines… sound like bliss? Then you'll be right at home at Càmping Molí Serradell, a friendly rural site in the Catalonia countryside, five minutes' drive from Campdevànol.
Boots and bikes are likely to see plenty of action when staying at this peaceful Pyrenees place – it's a super starting point for hikes and bike rides around the surrounding Sant Llorenç valley, taking in its forests, mountain views and waterfalls. Not been able to bring your bike? No worries – hire one on site and nab pointers on the area's best routes while you're at it.
Back at base, cool off after your endeavours with a paddle in the river or a full-on plunge into the open-air swimming pool. And after that? Well, surely it's time to feast. The folks here fill their restaurant menu with home-cooked dishes using centred around local produce and traditional techniques. Following in their ancestors’ footsteps, they grow veg, raise their own meat and bake bread in a wood-fired oven. And naturally there’s a generous supply of local wine to wash it all down with.
If you'd rather source your own supplies for meals, there's a good range of shops in Campdevànol.

Local attractions
Make sure those walking boots are well broken-in or your bike tyres are pumped, for there are heaps of trails to trek along in the surrounds. Have a word with the folks on site to select something suitable for you: perhaps the riverside ramble to the village of Gombrèn, the half-hour hike to a spectacular waterfall with seven pools, or the day-long expedition to hilltop Sanctuary of Montgrony.
For a bird’s-eye view of the mountains, venture to the Vall de Núria (half an hour's drive), to ride the cable car and take in some spectacular scenery. If you're here in winter, the resort is a hub for snow sports including skiing, snowshoeing and snow tubing. Summer visitors can get their hit of adrenaline on the ziplines at Estiula Aventura adventure park (five minutes) instead.
If you fancy an urban outing in the midst of all your rural pursuits, head to Ripoll (15 minutes) to see the stunning Santa Maria Monastery, meander around the medieval walls of Girona (an hour and 20 minutes) or zoom down to characterful, colourful Barcelona in an hour an a half.
