Nice quiet day by the pool, or cramming in loads of action and entertainment? You’ll be able to decide as you go along when you stay at Lifestyle Holidays at Camping Internacional de Calonge, a well-equipped holiday park five minutes’ drive from the centre of Platja d’Aro in the Girona region.
Everything here is geared up for fabulous family holidays, with the various options on site meaning that the active types have plenty to keep them busy while relaxation-seekers chill out. A case in point is the pool area, which has two main pools and a smaller one for kids. Various activities are held here regularly for adults and kids, but there are also plenty of hammocks and sun loungers around for lazier times.
If you're keen to keep moving, join the sports club for things like pilates classes, kayak trips, hikes and mountain bike outings (or rent bikes and kayaks to explore the area at your own pace). Kids, meanwhile, have their own clubs to join, with Tendy the snail leading art sessions, treasure hunts and games for the little ones while the older kids gather for games of volleyball, football or basketball.
Beyond this, of course, there’s also the option of going to the beach – the nearest is about 10 minutes' walk away. Just make sure you get back for the evening, when the entertainment gets going in the form of musicals, flamenco shows and mini discos.
Static caravans are kitted out with much of what you'll need (including a bathroom, air conditioning and a well-equipped kitchen), and there are lots of amenities to make everything convenient – a bar, restaurant, bakery, mini market, takeaway, laundrette, even a car wash…

Local attractions
Beach times? Head to Platja de les Torretes (10 minutes' walk) for swims and paddleboarding, Platja de Belladonna (15 minutes) to snorkel from a quiet cove or go all the way into Platja d’Aro (five minutes’ drive) for a livelier scene and the chance to sign up for scuba diving trips.
If you prefer your water more contained and with waterslides to zoom down, plan trips instead to Aquadiver waterpark (five minutes) or Water World Parc (half an hour), which has a wave pool and kids’ lagoon as well as lots of slides. If you don't mind a longer drive, PortAventura World (two hours) is a great day out – it’s the biggest theme park in Spain and packed with thrill rides, shows and family-friendly rides (plus more waterslides…)
For gentler days out, visit Calonge (five minutes), a medieval town with a castle, or get up to Girona (40 minutes) to walk the city walls, visit the cathedral and stroll the narrow streets of the Jewish Quarter.
