Get hiking, get fishing and get city visiting with a stay at Camping Cubillas in Castilla y León: in a walkers’ paradise near the Canal de Castilla hiking route, 10 minutes’ walk from the superb casting off of the Pisuerga river, and 10 minutes’ drive from the cities of Palencia and Valladolid. This is full-on wine land too, in a traditional Castillan landscape surrounded by small wine-producing villages: the Valladolid region is world famed for its vino and has wines from five protected designation of origin areas including the Ribera del Duero. (Top tip? Take a Ribera del Duero wine tour while you’re in the area.) Camping Cubillas has an outdoor pool and a huge surrounding area at which to lounge and to soak up some sun. Eats are covered at the barbecue facilities of the site’s big garden, but if you’re of the firm belief that cooking is too much faff while on hol, amble along to the site restaurant to eat your fill of traditional dishes made with fresh local produce.

Grand spot for a stopover, handy to the motorway. Staff are sound, facilities like showers are spotless. The pool's a big hit with the kids. A few folk found it a bit whiffy, noisy from the road, and some bits are a bit tired. Pitches can be a bit dodgy and the long-termers can make it a bit flat.

Liked I did not like my experience at all.

Disliked I spent just one night with my family at Camping Cubillas and it was a disappointment specially because the facilities were not cleaned. I do not recommend it based on my experience.

Disliked La piscine n'était pas très propre. Sanitaires assez sales (de l'eau partout par terre, des seaux d'eau sales etc..)
Une odeur d'égout toute la nuit ainsi que le matin. Insécurité : voiture agité et gens autour pendant la nuit.

Liked L’accueil très sympathique à la réception et la piscine très agréable. Resto sympa et pas cher.

Disliked Installations sanitaires vétustes, les portes des douches qui ne ferment pas, peu d’emplacements ombragés. Beaucoup de chiens.

Local attractions

As it’s so close to both the Canal de Castilla and the Pisuerga river, Camping Cubillas is in excellent location for trekking and cycling as well as river fishing for carp, barbel and brown trout. Townwise, take a trip to Valladolid (10 minutes away) for days exploring its Old Town, National Museum of Sculpture and many handsome old churches; and Palencia, also 10 minutes away and home to high city walls, a 13th-century church and La Olmeda Roman villa. The 15th-century castle at Ampudia is open for guided tours and is under 30 kilometres away; further afield, you could also get to the St James’s Way stopoff town of Frómista, 54 kilometres away, and Olmedo and its Palacio Caballero de Olmedo museum, 67 kilometres from base.
