- Family-friendly site in Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia Natural Park
- La Alberca five minutes' drive; half an hour to Ciudad Rodrigo
- Outdoor pool and café-bar on site; peaceful and shady forest setting
Long days of scenic hiking, easier strolls around historic sites or laidback afternoons relaxing in a green and shaded spot? Any one of these – or a mix of all three – can be on the cards for guests at Camping Sierra de Francia.
As the name suggests, this Castile and Leon site is in the Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia Natural Park, at the foot of the Peña de Francia mountain and about five minutes’ drive from the village of Nava de Francia. That location means lots of marked hiking and bike trails in the surrounding area (some of them passing atmospheric old churches or taking in traditional villages), and some lovely views while you’re on site too.
There’s a peaceful family vibe at this site, which is surrounded by forest and home to plenty of mature trees that provide shade and lovely natural green views. For your chilled-out afternoons on site you may like to find a quiet spot to read your book in, or head over to the outdoor pool (open in July and August) for a dip with a view. Meanwhile, active kids can expend some energy at the play area.
Time for something to eat? Pick up picnic supplies in the local villages or take it easy with a table at the site’s own café-bar, which serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks and has a cool shaded terrace area.
Other facilities on site include a launderette, a wifi service and bathrooms with accessible facilities and baby changing areas.

Local attractions
Pack your boots and/or bikes, as there are dozens of marked trails to follow through the Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia Natural Park. Some have been designed to include things like ancient rock art sites or religious shrines, while others are all about the nature and wildlife. The park has a wide variety of ecosystems, including areas of mountain broom, Pyrenean oak forests and Mediterranean-style orchards and vineyards, so there’s plenty to see.
For a dip into the area’s history and culture, plan visits to villages like La Alberca (five minutes’ drive) and Mogarraz (15 minutes) or to Ciudad Rodrigo (half an hour), a city with ancient roots where you can now see the castle, cathedral and a whole host of gorgeous palacios from across the ages. The wonderful city of Salamanca (55 minutes) should also be on the bill.
Closer to home, it’s well worth taking the drive along winding roads up to the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Francia (15 minutes) for spectacular views across the area. Intrepid kids (and grownups, in fact) may also enjoy heading up into the trees at Parque de Aventuras Las Batuecas (10 minutes).
