- Off-grid site on a five-hectare olive farm in stunning countryside
- A 10-minute drive from Almonte and 25 from Doñana National Park
- Bike rental, meals available, terrace and communal lounge
Live the good life – or ‘buena vida’, as they call it in the local lingo – at Finca Casa Halcon, an olive farm among handsome Huelva countryside with five hectares of land to wander around.
Slow travel, healthy living and an off-grid ethos are the top tenets of this site: it has a well full of purified water and serves breakfast and dinner (for an extra charge) made with produce grown on the grounds. The open-plan sitting room’s a comfy spot for striking up conversations with other guests as you eat or lounge in comfort.
Try not to get too cosy though, as there’s much to make the most of in the local area, from touring the religious pilgrimage site of El Rocío (20 minutes’ drive) to sauntering across the sand dunes, pine woods, marshland and lagoons of Doñana National Park (25 minutes). A couple of horse-riding stables, for those who want to experience one of Andalusia’s top traditions, are within a 20-minute drive too.
Other must-see spots in the area include the smashing city of Seville and its Moorish architecture, just over an hour away by bus from the local town of Almonte (10 minutes’ cycle ride away, with bikes rentable from the park).
Once you've seen the city, freewheel back to the site for restful times in the company of the site’s menagerie of animals – egg-laying hens, grazing horses, a trio of dogs and a couple of cats among them – on the terrace and in the lush gardens.

Local attractions
Amble around Almonte, the nearest town (10 minutes’ drive), to see whitewashed houses, visit the stately Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Church and tour the 16th-century Town Hall before catching the bus to the village of El Rocío, a key pilgrimage place that's home to the much-revered Virgen del Rocío Shrine.
After you've learned about why people flock to this monument for prayers, dally a while at Doñana National Park (25 minutes), where the coastal wetlands are prime snooping spots for rare animals like the Iberian lynx. Five minutes on, the kilometre-long stretch of sand around the seaside tourist hub of Matalascañas is sprinkled with watersports providers and camel-ride organisers.
Access the dunes at the Asperillo Cliffs (45 minutes’ drive) from here, or bask on the beaches around Huelva (40 minutes) in between a couple of goes on the green at one of the five local golf courses.
