- Peaceful, simple and spacious Western Cape farm site
- A 20-minute drive to Greyton; 45 minutes to Franschhoek
- Trail runs, mountain biking and swimming dam on site
If you’ve got rural peace, open spaces and stunning views on your Western Cape wishlist, set your sights on a stay at Spinlea Farm, in the Overberg area 20 minutes’ drive from Greyton.
There’s a truly remote vibe at this campsite, which is part of a working Angora goat and flower farm, and a huge amount of space for guests to play games, fly kites or just relax and soak up the scenery. And that scenery is well worth soaking up, as this valley location is surrounded by soaring mountain peaks.
The focus here is very much on simplicity – there’s a modern toilet and shower block and a washing-up area, but that’s it on the facilities front (please note there’s no drinking water supply, and no power to the pitches). You’ll be able to bring along various things like gazebos and awnings to set your pitch up as you like, and barbecues and campfires are also permitted for traditional ways to cook and keep warm.
All of this adds up to a fantastic location for a proper digital disconnect, leaving your devices behind for a while and instead focusing on the natural world – the farm’s 475 hectares have lots of options for walks, trail runs and mountain biking, with the promise of a swim in the natural water of the dam at the end if you like.
Although it’s all about celebrating the natural world here, it’s also handy that there are several towns (Greyton, Caledon and Genadendal) within about 20 minutes’ drive for shops and places to eat.

Local attractions
The main draw here is the fact that you don't even have to venture off site to find fantastic outdoor activities – things like walks, swimming, fishing and mountain biking are all right here, with the chance to wander through flower fields and possibly meet a goat or two along the way.
When you do head out, there are more outdoor adventures to come in places like Greyton Nature Reserve (20 minutes' drive) or along the shores of Theewaterskloofdam – Theewaterskloof Golf Club (25 minutes) is likely to be one of the most scenic places you’ve ever teed off. Meanwhile, places like Genadendal Mission Museum (20 minutes) and Caledon Museum (half an hour) will give you a glimpse into the area's past.
Western Cape is of course well known for its wine – and you’ll be able to sample some close by at the wineries around Greyton (20 minutes) or set off to explore key locations like Franschhoek (45 minutes), Paarl and Stellenbosch (both an hour and 15 minutes).
