Park up for a mountain retreat at the stunningly scenic Pristava Lepena, a family-friendly resort site 15 minutes’ drive from the town of Bovec in Slovenia’s Goriška region.
In Triglav National Park and an easy five-minute stroll from the banks of the Soča river, this is a top spot for active getaways in the great wide open. Get out on the Soča for spectacular explores of the valley – nab a raft or kayak to get carried along by the river, give canyoning a go, hike or bike its length, or soar overhead with some paragliding… whatever strikes the fancy.
Easier explores are a cinch too and experienced riders can trot along to the stables to sign up for some trail riding on purebred Lipizzaner horses. Just a beginner? Never fear – there’s a riding school on site to get you into the saddle in no time.
Energetic hols are never complete without zen-like unwinding, so toddle over to the wellness centre to unravel tired muscles in the sauna or hot tub (request in advance), or spend a (relatively) lazy day on site playing table tennis, practicing archery or floating for hours in the pool.
Achieve peak bliss with an evening fireside or on the open terrace at the restaurant, trying out local dishes and Slovenian wines then – if stays are timed well – head downstairs for a drink or two in the cellar bar that’s open for special occasions.
