Gather the kids, grab your other half or set off solo for EuroParcs Molengroet, a North Holland escape just 650 metres from the Geestmerambacht recreation area. Whoever you're travelling with, easy access to the park's lake, woods, reed banks and flower-filled meadows mean that you may very well spend your days strolling, cycling, mountain biking, picnicking or fishing. This family-friendly site is thoroughly prepared for kids too – you can let them loose on the jumping pillow or playground, then take them over to cool off in the outdoor pool. There’s a restaurant on site if you fancy a bite to eat before renting a bike and pedalling around the Zomerdel, the Geestmerambacht’s small lake. Dips in the lake are pretty cool too; there are beaches around the shore, and since so many birds like the environment you might spot a spotted woodpecker, sparrowhawk or buzzard gliding by (or rabbits and foxes in the wooded areas). When you’re ready for a little urban action, wander through the Netherlands’ so-called ‘cheese city’ of Alkmaar (10 minutes’ drive). It has a traditional cheese market and plenty of cosy terraces, cafés and restaurants to sample the local goodies. In Schoorl (10 minutes), the tall sand dune Klimduin in the middle of the town is a great setting for kids to run up and down as they please. The artists’ village of Bergen (15 minutes) is another splendid spot, as are nearby North Sea beaches such as those alongside the seaside resort of Egmond aan Zee (20 minutes).

  • Reception is unmanned after 5 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.
  • No gas barbecues allowed.
  • No charcoal barbecues allowed.

Lovely, well-kept spot with great sports for kids, a chilled family vibe. Tents got a shout-out, as did the peaceful setting near lakes, eats, and Alkmaar. Pool, playground, and clean loos also impressed. Perfect escape from the city buzz. Just wish there were more hooks!

Liked Great setting near canals & lakes, loved the heated swimming pool and good food in the restaurant

Disliked Our own fault but we didn’t realise that there wouldn’t be facilities for us to cook our own food.
We had two 3 man tents but the pitch we got was a bit worn out with a grassless patch in the middle from bigger tents.

Liked De netheid van het park. Alles zag er keurig uit. Aanplanting van het park, het zwembad, de speeltuin. Het toiletgebouw werd goed schoongehouden.

Local attractions

Up for a lot of outdoor time? Make tracks to Klimduin (10 minutes’ drive), where kids and adults alike can take on the challenge of scrambling up a wooded sand dune as fast as possible, before settling in for coffee and apple pie down at the bottom. For dunes of a wilder variety you’ll need to head to Schoorlse Duinen (20 minutes) where trails run through forests and sandy areas and you can keep an eye out for lots of birds. There’s plenty of sand on the beach over in Egmond aan Zee (20 minutes) too, along with a handful of intriguing sights like the Castle Chapel. To get more of a taste of local history, head to Museum BroekerVeiling (five minutes) for boat tours and a glimpse inside a 19th-century auction house, stroll around the 17th-century town square in Hoorn (35 minutes) or head to the attractive capital, Amsterdam (45 minutes), for canalside wanders and art gallery visits.
