Liked: Wonderfully warm welcome on our arrival. This is a very peaceful spot surrounded by farmland and endless walking and cycling opportunities. The facilities block was excellent; well equipped and spotless. As the field was far too wet to drive onto, following weeks of wet weather, we were very happy to park our van on the owners drive and were still able to access the electric hook-up. We also enjoyed the company of the very friendly cats!

Local attractions

With exhibits including shipbuilding blueprints, ship ornaments and boat models (plus temporary art displays), the Frisian Maritime Museum in Sneek illustrates the history of the town’s seafaring heritage. Sneek is also known for its 15th-century Waterpoort, a large city gate flanked by two tall towers. The ceiling of a small canalside building in Franeker (20 minutes’ drive) features what is thought to be the world’s oldest working model of the universe, dating back to the 18th century. The Eise Eisinga Planetarium also displays astronomical instruments and a digital collection of scientific manuscripts. The watery landscape of De Alde Feanen National Park (35 minutes) is a great spot for birdwatchers, who might catch glimpses of cormorants and herons diving into canals, peat holes and lakes to catch fish. There are plenty of waterside trails in this nature area, but the best way to explore is on a canoe or by electric boat.

Admission

At least one of the party members must be aged 20 or over.

Safety

Barbecues are permitted but must be raised off the ground and attended by an adult at all times.

Changes to your holiday

Bookings cannot be amended within 4 day(s) of arrival.

General

Bookings must not be for more than 30 consecutive nights.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.

Firearms are not permitted.
Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.
