Finding some peace in the Frisian Lakes is fabulously straightforward when you park your motorhome at Camperplaats Pontdyk. This quiet site is easily accessed from the A7, and it’s close to cycle routes, ferries and several bodies of water for fishing, swimming and sailing.
Nature is all around when you stay here – look out for hares, deer and birds of prey as you walk or cycle on nearby trails, or stick around on the site’s private jetty for some fishing or a cooling dip in the water. There are lots of fabulous waterways to explore nearby, and the site also makes a lovely base for outings to pretty local towns like Sneek, Joure and Sloten.
Villages, too – this site is next to the Pontdyk, the shortest route to the sweet little traditional village of Langweer. You’ll get there by crossing the bridge over the Langweerder Vaart, which is only accessible until 9pm. After that, all traffic stops and a properly peaceful atmosphere descends on the site and its surroundings – just the ticket for a relaxed evening and a good night’s sleep after an activity-packed day.
You’ll be staying on fully serviced pitches here, with water and electricity for each pitch and access to wifi, a chemical disposal point and bathrooms with toilets and showers. Pitches are in nicely maintained grass fields, with trees for shade and plenty of space for awnings and outdoor furniture. Also on site is a leather workshop in an old tank room, where you can see some of the craft in action and buy handmade leather bags.

Local attractions
If you’re a fan of water-based activities, you’ve come to the right place – whether you’re visiting for major events like Skutjessilen and SneekWeek or heading out to captain your own boat around local waterways. Boats can be hired in Langweer (20 minutes’ cycle) and you can also sign up for sailing trips on a wooden boat from the site.
If you don’t fancy taking to the water, you can easily explore on foot or by bike – the site has a couple of good route recommendations using local bike paths and ferries to show you some of the area’s best scenery. You might want to put places like Joure (25 minutes) and Sint Nicolaasga (half an hour) on your itinerary, or head somewhere like Outdoorpark Friesland (40 minutes) for some great fishing.
Sneek (15 minutes’ drive/half an hour by bike) is your nearest big town, with historic sights like the water gate (from 1613), museums including the Fries Scheepvaart Museum and open spaces like Burgemeester rasterhofpark, which is home to some hairy Highland cows.
