  • Quiet site on a farm between Delden and Goor
  • Within a half-hour bike ride of seven castles
  • On the banks of the Twente Canal for fishing
Fancy a few days of peace and quiet, spending your break pedalling along easy bike paths, pottering around local towns and castles… or settling in for a spot of fishing? Such are the simple pleasures on offer around Camping De Broak, a rural site on a dairy farm right next to the Twente Canal halfway between Delden and Goor (and around a 20-minute bike ride from both). If you’ve got a licence you can fish right next to the site, casting your rod into the canal waters for carp and bream, and if you’re on hol with your bike you can roam around the area’s quiet paths to local attractions including the canal locks at Delden, Twickel Castle or De Waarbeek theme park. Simple too are the offerings on site – no noisy activities here, just well-kept essentials, including electric hook-ups, a wifi connection, a covered washing-up area and a heated toilet/shower block with accessible facilities.

Local attractions

If you like a castle or few, you’ve come to the right place – take to your bike for half an hour or so and you can be at one of the seven within 10 kilometres of Camping De Broak. The castles of Warmelo, Weldam and Twickel are all worth a stop for a wander through the gorgeous gardens; you may be able to get into the buildings too on certain days of the year. Hengelo, 40 minutes away by bike, is a great place to spend the day if you’ve brought the small sorts: De Waarbeek theme park has lots of rides for the pre-teen types, and the Heim technology museum has a fab collection of machinery that you can watch in action. There are great museums in Enschede too (25 minutes away by car), and a chance to tour the Grolsch beer factory. A little closer to home in Delden are an intriguing canal lock system and an open-air pool with waterslides and lots of fun things to play with.
