It's free, quick and easy!
- Peaceful site on the banks of the scenic Achterhoek’s Twente Canal
- Zutphen, Deventer and Apeldoorn within half an hour’s drive
- Restaurant, takeaway, sauna, hot tub and bike storage all on site
Bit of a reluctant outdoor holidaymaker? You won’t need to be towed along to Camping Het Waldhoorn, a family-friendly glamping experience five minutes’ drive from the Gelderland village of Eefde.
In the stunningly scenic Achterhoek region and on the banks of the Twente Canal, this is a top spot to use as a base for Dutch explores. There are plenty of cycling and walking routes from the site to nearby cities, so wander along to reception to snag a map. Worried about bike security? There’s covered bike storage on site, so that two-wheelers are safe while their owners are gadding about elsewhere.
Tempting as it is to wander every inch of this part of the Netherlands, there’s lots on site to justify staying put for lazy days: playgrounds and sandy play areas will keep the kids busy, while spying out the fish and the insects in the large pond will be a little zoologist’s dream. The best bit? Grownups can soothe aching muscles at the wellness garden, where a sauna and hot tub are waiting to wash away any residual stress.
During peckish moments, stroll along to the restaurant terrace for a cup of coffee or tea and a pastry, or satisfy bigger hungers with a meal or takeaway. Not in the mood to mingle? Stick to the guest kitchen back at the tent for home-cooked efforts.

Local attractions
City slickers and anyone who’s just looking for a bit of calm will be equally chuffed around here… There’s a little distance between the site and noisy urban areas, so things are quite peaceful, but the cities of Zutphen, Deventer and Apeldoorn are all within half an hour’s drive when something more busy beckons.
Quiet days are easily achieved a little over half an hour away on the trails and among the markets of Hoge Veluwe National Park (making an exception for the hunting horns of the Overlopers), and there’s hiking, biking and horseback trekking just over an hour away among the red deer and wild boar of Veluwezoom National Park.
Get back to civilisation with museum visits and boat tours in Zutphen 15 minutes from base, or head to Deventer for ice skating, watersports and a toy museum. If slightly longer drives work, head to Apeldoorn where there’s a zoo, theme park, palace and ape park.
Have the Zutphen boat tours whet (wet?) appetites for water-based days? There’s an outdoor pool complex 10 minutes from the site – with canoes to rent here too – and an indoor pool 15 minutes away. If you need something more adrenaline fuelled, cry off and make tracks for the ‘coasters and rides at Walibi Holland theme park, an hour from base.
