- Close to spectacular mountain hikes around the Val di Zoldo
- Reading room, playground and cosy common room with fireplace
Mountain stays and sunny hiking in the vast and fab Dolomites… slide along for some of this at Camping Civetta, in a mighty scenic mountainous space between the Alps and the Italian Alps.
The setting of Camping Civetta is best known for its skiing and other winter sports (it's close to the famed Civetta ski area, the biggest in the Veneto region), but anyone eager to earn their Italian activities badge should settle here in the warmer months too. Hiking paths, mountain biking, climbing and horse riding available around this beaut Val di Zoldo setting and around the stunning scenery of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site – even if you're not up for hiking or getting too active, it's a cert you'll want to traipse around these parts with your camera.
In among this lush locale, Camping Civetta is a small, cosy and family-run site 1,388 metres above sea level between Mount Pelmo and Mount Civetta. It's 500 metres from the shops, restaurants and bars of Pecol, and 50 metres from ski lifts running all year round so you can ascend to the ski resort for shopping, walking and yet more mountain views. Hikes are easily accessed from the ski resort and the surrounding region: ask the friendly site team for tips and route info, or take your pick according to the weather forecast and trek info available on site daily in three languages.
When you need a cosy day on site to rest up your tired feet, there's a reading room and a comfy common room with fireplace and dining tables for you to lounge around at, as well as a table tennis room if you just must keep up the activity levels. Other facilities include a playground and free wifi; amenities include toilets and showers, a laundry and drying room, and an equipment storage area next door.

Local attractions
Some truly stunning walks are around this part of the Dolomites: even if you're an avid skiiing sort, a summer stay for mountain treks should also be on your must-do list.
It's only 50 metres from here to the Civetta ski area and its Dolomites walking trails, while the site itself is a simple starting point for easier walks, high-altitude excursions and day trips by mountain bike. Horse riding and climbing can be accessed within a couple of kilometres.
Away from the slopes, about 30 kilometres or a drive of around 50 minutes through the mountains will land you at the Civetta Adventure Park, for treetop walkways and bridges on four routes for varying ages and levels of skill. You should also make it a mission to get through as much valley food and drink specialities as you can: try the pumpkin tortelli dish Casonziei, succulent melted cheese, local smoked meats, and Zoldan ice cream; dig into this last at the gelateria in Pecol.
