- Scenic site in well-kept gardens on the banks of Lake Trasimeno
- A 10-minute walk from Passignano sul Trasimeno
- Lake views from the outdoor pool, sun terrace and restaurant
Cor – check out Camping Kursaal’s cracking location. If you’re in the market for a place to stay within easy reach of Lake Trasimeno you could barely get much closer than this site without actually going afloat.
As you’d imagine from a place right on the shoreline, the lake views from here are mighty handsome. Gawp at them all you like but bear in mind that you’re likely to get hungry sooner or later… and that’s where another excellent aspect of this setting comes in: there’s a little clutch of restaurants just outside the gates and it’s only a leisurely 10-minute stroll to get to Passignano sul Trasimeno for supermarket supplies and the obligatory refuelling at a lakeside bar or gelateria.
Simply can’t bear to tear yourself away from the site? (Fair enough, the pine-scented, flower-filled gardens can have that effect.) Feed up instead at the restaurant – the team here are proud of their tasty meals, served on a terrace cunningly placed to give views of both the lake and the playground (a mighty handy feature for those tasked with keeping small sorts happy).
That view isn’t just saved for lazy days (although the sun loungers have been set up in a nifty spot for scenery admiring) – it can also form the backdrop to swims in the outdoor pool or games of beach volleyball, football and table tennis. The lakeside cycle path is just 100 metres away for those who’d like to see Trasimeno on a two-wheeled tour.

Local attractions
Much of the joy of a stay in the Italian lakes is in pottering about in the little villages (making sure you keep cool with the aid of plenty of gelato, of course). You might also consider clambering up to the top of the castle in Passignano sul Trasimeno (10 minutes’ walk) for far-reaching views, taking off to Tuoro sul Trasimeno (10 minutes’ drive) for a boat trip to Isola Maggiore and/or touring the highly decorous Palazzo della Corgna in Castiglione del Lago (20 minutes’ drive).
Something a little more energetic in mind (perhaps to work off the effects of all that gelato)? Hit the dirt on a quad bike tour 10 minutes away, swing your clubs at one of the golf courses within a half-hour drive or wend your way through the treetops at the Saltalbero Adventure Park (40 minutes away).
It’s a fine idea to factor in time for some city day trips too: Perugia (25 minutes’ drive), Assisi (40 minutes) and Siena (an hour) are all easily doable and utterly gorgeous, as is Montepulciano (35 minutes) – for its Renaissance palaces as much as its wineries.
