- In Partaccia, Marina di Massa, with a backdrop of the Apuan Alps
- Set in front of a spectacular beach
- Bar, restaurant, market, wifi, playground and hairdresser
Beach or mountains? Don't dither between either on your Tuscan and Tyrrhenian Sea holiday – for you can (and jolly well should) have both.
Such sensible setting is at the family-friendly site of Campeggio Italia in Tuscany's Massa and Carrara province, in a green landscape right next to a wide golden beach, with a backdrop of Apuan Alps for your viewing – or rock climbing – pleasure. Sandy days, mountain days and days of coastal sightseeing are all within your holiday grasp; just ask the friendly staff at reception for info and assistance on arranging stuff to see and do in the local area.
Campeggio Italia covers seven green hectares, about 15 minutes' drive inland from the province capital of Massa. Accommodation is in smart cabins, all fully furnished with air conditioning and heating, and all with outdoor terraces and garden furniture. A wooden walkway takes you down to the beach, which is serviced from June to September.
Communal facilities include an on-site hairdresser for those who might lose sleep over a badly managed barnet, and a bar for lengthy aperitifs as well as a restaurant and takeaway for eats.
There's a mini market and a playground too, and entertainment evenings for adults and kids are held once a week in summer.

Local attractions
Apart from the golden length of Tuscany sand, among the most famed attractions in the Massa and Carrara region are the white marble quarries of Carrara, 10 minutes' drive from the site to the north west. (If you've ever seen Quantum of Solace, it's around this gleaming setting that Daniel Craig hair-raisingly spins the Aston Martin of James Bond).
The quarries have been well known in the area since the time of ancient Rome (they did get around a bit, those ancient Romans), and were visited too by Michelangelo who used Carrara marble for some of his best-known works. These days, over 650 quarry sites are dug into the Apuan Alps: go for a wander around and a daydream that you're visiting as Michelangelo (for cultured types) or James Bond (for petrolheads and international spies).
A UNESCO World Heritage Site rightly famed around the world, the Italian Riviera's five towns of the Cinque Terre are within easy driving distance or mighty scenic day trips. Just allow yourself to get lost among this spectacular scenery, villages such Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore, and the landscapes of the surrounding Cinque Terre National Park… stopping off frequently for local refreshments including Mediterranean seafood and Monterosso anchovies, regional grapes and olives, and Sciachetrà and the eponymous Cinque Terre accredited wines.
